Her only contact during that time is a young officer named Jan who talks with her every day. They fall in love and express their feelings for each other through a numerical code. Yes, there's nudity involved, but the story isn't over.

Sixteen years later, they meet again and are still in love, even though Bettina has a boyfriend and Jan has a wife and daughter. They agree to abandon their lives and everyone in them so they can start fresh with each other, and they eventually get married.
