The Encyclopedia Of Smut: The Horror Porn Appendix

Since Halloween has been transformed from a spooky holiday into a slutty holiday, we thought we'd celebrate this special time of year by looking at the spot where fear meets fapping. Be sure to keep this stuff in mind the next time you book a romantic getaway at a cabin in the middle of the haunted woods where people mysteriously disappear.

Fear As Fetish

Many fetishes involve fear in some form, but there are certain circumstances in which fear is a core facet of the sexual experience. On the semi-scary side, people who fetishize incontinence imagine that they will be punished for pissing themselves, and the fear of disobeying some authority heightens the experience. Serious voyeurs are another example, for they get part of their thrill from the fear of being caught. These risks may pump up one's adrenaline, but the worst that could happen is enduring shame, embarrassment, or other non-life threatening consequences.

Then there are the fetishes that play with life and death. Autassassinophilia is a paraphilia in which someone gets sexually aroused at the risk (or even the thought or fantasy) of being killed. The inverse of this, erotophonophilia, is arousal attained through the planning and execution of the murder of a sexual partner. These might sound like paraphilias that only serial killers indulge in, but as Dr. Mark Griffiths points out, there are a number of semi-recent examples of people engaging in sexual murder pacts, and even one that crosses over with vorarephilia.

When taken less literally, autassassinophilia can be viewed as a facet of masochism or as an innocent fantasy that gets expressed through different kinks: it comes into play when submissives feel completely at the mercy of their masters during extreme BDSM, it's part of the classic "damsel in distress" trope you find in vintage men's action magazines, and even people who have safe anonymous sex with strangers can get indulge in fatal fantasies as they ponder whether the polite boy from craigslist intends to chop them up. All in all, fear fetishism is about hacking your body's natural fight or flight responses in order to heighten a sexual experience.

The Monster What Craves Flesh!

Now we know that fear can be used to enhance sex, let's take a look at how sex is used to enhance fear. In other words, let's groove upon the ways that horror films show hot bodies getting torn apart by the evil things that probably live in your closet.

This is a topic we often discuss on this site, mostly because slasher films are a major source for gratuitous nudity and we like keeping you abreast on that kind of stuff. The naked body (or even the bikinied body) always seems to attract calamity, and that largely has to do with setting up empathy between the audience and the victim on screen. Nudity is vulnerability, and the sight of a naked woman (because it's usually a woman) fighting or running for her life reminds us just how squishy and delicate we are. In the horror film universe, even underwear seems like a good defense against death.

Then there's the attraction factor at work. When we see a gorgeous lady getting naked in a tent in the deep dark woods, no matter how eerie the soundtrack gets, there's still a part of us that wants to touch her. Just as with porn, we project our desires onto the characters in the film, so when Jason Voorhees shows up and stabs her, not only are we mortified at the vision of this sexual target turning to bloody, lifeless meat, but we're also disgusted at ourselves for identifying with the killer who wanted to touch her as badly as we did.

And let's not forget how traditional values come into play! Take the original "Halloween" film from 1978 for example: the protagonist is the only one who doesn't drink or have sex, and she's the only one who lives. Coincidence? Not at all; some film critics believe that many slasher movie villains are fueled by psychosexual rage stemming from traumatic experiences, rejection, and/or strict moral and social codes.

Pornographic Approaches To Horror

Pornographers certainly aren't the type to shy away from horror tropes. Quite the contrary, we're sure many of them grew up getting off to the most gruesome and gory films in history (the sickos)! The following flicks aren't just some of our favorite horror pornos, they also give you a sampling of the spookiness spectrum seen in porn these days.

A Wet Dream on Elm Street - Lee Roy Myers replaced Freddy Krueger's signature razor glove with a handful of dildos and lets him run wild through the dreams of sexy pornstars. Freddy gives the girls orgasms powerful enough to kill them, but besides that, this parody doesn't give you the chills so much as it gives you the chuckles. Still, you have to respect Myers's attention to detail and respect for "A Nightmare on Elm Street"

Burning Angel's horror porn - It's hard to choose just one of Burning Angel's horror porns, especially since they're all such excellent parodies! As far as we remember, they've made "Re-Penetrator," "The XXXorcist," "Evil Head" (which actually came out yesterday), and a shorter one called "The Shaft," which is of course based on "The Craft," not "Shaft" (or William Howard Taft). We consider the Burning Angel stuff a bit more horrifying than movies like "A Wet Dream on Elm Street" because these alt babes aren't afraid to bring out the blood and guts while they're banging each other. Not sure what we mean? Here's a picture of Joanna Angel slitting her throat in front of Tommy Pistol. It's intense.

Voracious - John Stagliano recently directed a series of episodic vampire porn films that have recently been packaged into a neat little first season DVD. The story follows Brooklyn Lee, a vampire who's beginning to question her life of pleasure and power as she thinks about all she gave up. With vampire clans and crooked priests and a bunch of anal sex, this isn't exactly the most nightmare-inducing porn ever conceived, but it plays with vampire lore without making it all about vampire sex, and we respect that.

The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol - Hey, we were just talking about this guy! This film is on another level. Even though it draws from elements of other horror movies, the plot is all its own: Tommy Pistol's life has fallen apart in every possible way, and he has a psychotic break through which we see three different interludes that all make us want to vomit (with appreciation for Pistol's brilliance, that is). It's the snuff film section that gets us most. No, no wait, it's the end of the whole thing. We're not spoiling it because you need to see it. On an empty stomach.
