“Masters Of Sex” Masters The Non-Gratuitous Sex Scene

Premium cable shows often find themselves in a bit of a bind when it comes to the topic of sex and nudity. Their shows need to feature just enough adult content to make premium cable worth paying for, but they can't just throw a bunch of boobs in anywhere, or it'll start to seem gratuitous. After many years of tweaking the formula, Showtime may finally have hit on the perfect mix: they've created a show about about sex researchers, meaning they can show as much sex as they (and their viewers) want, and it's still not gratuitous.

If anything, we'd say Showtime runs the risk of not showing enough sex in this show. Masters and Johnson spent years studying human sexual response: you could fill every single episode end to end with sex scenes, and it probably still wouldn't touch on the sheer amount of sex these two watched. But, you know, we understand that Showtime's gotta make room for a plot somehow -- so we'll give them a pass on the accuracy of this one.
