Free porn is killing the porn industry!

The religious fundamentalists could not be happier. The actors and actresses can't figure out an exit plan. Playboy will surely die when Hef goes to the Playboy Mansion in the sky. But, it simply is not true. The secret is that the sex biz is alive and well. They just want you to think otherwise.

When Shame is the name of a juror deciding the verdict in the Court of Public Opinion, there tends to be dirty little secrets kept to preserve status quo, to protect the innocent, and to make sure no one is caught with his pants down. The porn industry cops guilt to some stereotypes as charged, but claims innocence to many accusations, and even would like you to believe it to be the victim. And in the role of victim to the evils of free content, the porn industry is ashamed to admit the truth. The truth is that there still is money in porn, just not for everyone, and not as much as you have been led to believe.

A monstrous close up camera shot of genitalia can trick the viewer into thinking, through the distortion and distraction, that there is a lot more going on down there than meets the eye; so, in a similar manner, the porn industry has used proportion and proximity to force perspective and manipulate opinion of the industry. Dig into any of the statistics about the size and multi-billion dollar profitability of the industry, and it quickly becomes apparent that there is not much more than speculation and hypothesis with very little fact or substantiation to back it up. No pun intended, but this swings both ways.

Just like the industry inflated estimates of earnings, the estimates of decreases in earnings are also largely unsubstantiated hearsay, based largely on opinions of models that don't get as much work as they used to, or paid referral website affiliates that have complained about not converting sales because there is too much free content available. The truth is that most stars and starlets in the porn biz cannot sustain enough interest to remain commercially viable, which is a sad truth for actors and actresses in mainstream Hollywood too. The free porn sites are actually super affiliates, "whales", which have merely pushed aside smaller affiliates using antiquated methods to generate traffic.

The money is still there. The sex industry remains the world oldest industry for a reason. People will always be content to pay for a reasonable facsimile of what they want but cannot have, or pay for an upgrade, or remain content to pay for anything that entertains and chases away the blues. Once my company, Homegrown Video, figured out how to play "Moneyball" on the free porn tube site traffic, then we became more profitable online than ever.

Most people these days will take most of what they read with a grain of salty skepticism. The internet demonstrates clearly that most of what we read as "facts" are oftentimes manipulations of opinions, orchestrated data, and catchy memes to woo and sway passive minds. That is fine as long as somewhere along the line the facts eventually sift through to clarify reality. Otherwise, all that is left is dirty little secrets. Free porn is actually not killing the industry. The ones that cannot profit from it secretly don't want to admit that they cannot figure out to make money from it. Infact, I think free porn is making the industry more mainstream than ever, but keep that a secret…
