Chase What Matters, Like Shutting Down Porn Stars’ Bank Accounts

This week in "Capitalism at its Stupidest" news, Chase bank is shutting down the accounts of porn stars in an attempt to reduce what they call their "reputational risk."

According to Perez Hilton (I know, I'm sorry), hundreds of letters went out to members of the adult industry informing them, "We recently reviewed your account and determined that it will be closing on May 11, 2014." The letter goes on to apologize for the inconvenience and instruct the recipient to cancel all automatic deposits and withdrawals.

This isn't the first time Chase has displayed selective morality in their business dealings. Just last year, they found themselves in the middle of a firestorm for refusing to process payments to the site lovabilitycondoms.com, which sells condoms and has a mission statement geared towards female empowerment. Lovability CEO Tiffany Gaines released this statement following Chase's decision to process payments following protests:

Chase's ability to pass judgment calls on what we can buy and sell is a breach of everyone's rights... We cannot allow any large corporations like Chase bank to get away with governing our ability to take responsibility for our sexual health.

So much for the almighty dollar ruling all. Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is a registered Democrat, but has recently begun calling out President Obama's "anti-business" policies:

I've gotten disturbed at some of the Democrats' anti-business behavior, the attacks on work ethic and successful people. I think it's very counterproductive. ... It doesn't mean I don't have their values. I want jobs. I want a more equitable society. I don't mind paying higher taxes. ... I do think we're our brother's keeper but I think that attacking that which creates all things, is not the right way to go about it.
