THROWBACK THURSDAY–Wicked Girl Serenity Reigned Supreme

Wicked Pictures contract performer Serenity was one of the biggest porn stars from the nineties/early 2000’s.  She was truly a graceful, elegant, gifted  performer and carried herself in a way that many porn stars try to emulate today without knowing that she was the one who created that bearing.

Hailing from Missouri, Serenity started as a stripper, drawing strongly from her background in ballet.  Her work as a feature dancer was storied and she won Topless Dancer-World Championship in Las Vegas.   She went from all of that fancy dancing to starring in her very first adult movie—Wicked Pictures’ “Jennifer Ate” directed by Jim Enright where she starred alongside now-legends Jeanna Fine and P.J. Sparxxx in the hot all-girler. 

She was with Wicked Pictures for five years—a very long stretch in the world of contract performers.—and she was one of the first condom-only contract performers ever in the history of adult.  Serenity showed all the porn girls that it was possible to be a Wicked Girl and make the choice to go condom-only and thrive.  That was a big deal back then and she did her best to represent the adult industry with grace and dignity.

In the mainstream, E! had her on the “Wild On” series where she was an able and reliable hostess.  She appeared in more than 20 specials for E!, all of which had great ratings and made her very recognizable throughout America.  She also did a Pleather Yourself photo campaign for PETA, asking her fans to wear pleather instead of leather.  She was a vegetarian and truly believed in preventing animal cruelty. A lot of people dismiss animals as a resource. But they are a lot more than that, they just don’t have voices to stand up for themselves, so they need people to stand up and speak out for them,” Serenity told AVN at the time.  PETA honored her work for them with a gala event in New York City.

Her performance work while at Wicked was stellar.  She is to date the only performer to win back-to-back AVN Awards for Best Actress. In 1999’s “M: Caught In the Act”, Serenity starred as diva porn star M.  Rog of RogReviews.com said this of her character, “Some porn stars have two names, the big ones have only one, but M is too big even for single name status. Only one letter will do for this mega star. This is the kind of role that the Blonde One always seems to nail. She has a great sense of humor, doesn’t mind poking fun at herself and shows a lot of comedic timing when giving good dialog. This movie is intentionally over the top, poking fun at porn stars and the way we sometimes place them on pedestals so high that we can all enjoy the long fall back to reality.” This won the AVN Award for Best Comedy that year, in no small part due to her work. 

In 2000’s “Double Feature” also directed by Morgan, Serenity stars in an absolutely hilarious take on the old monster/zombie movies.  She showed off her dancer flexibility in the sex and threw herself one hundred percent into all of the comedy.   She does three sex scenes in the movie including one hot girl/girler with her fellow Wicked Girl Stephanie Swift.

In addition to making all of that lovely porno, Serenity was also the publisher of Déjà Vu Showgirls magazine for five years.  As publisher, she helped the staff with scouting talent for photo spreads, wrote articles and produced a monthly column.  She also hosted many Déjà Vu Showgirl of the Year competitions.  She won her own award as Best Adult Talent at the 1998 Exotic Dancer Awards. 

Serenity also had her own novelty company—Las Vegas Novelties—where she had stars Jewel De’Nyle and Michael Stefano endorse their own lines.  Keeping in line with her own beliefs, all of the company’s products were made without cruelty to animals. 

She is in the AVN and XRCO Halls of Fame and in September of 2004, Serenity called it quits.  Of his contract girl’s retirement, Wicked Pictures founder Steve Orenstein told AVN, “Serenity was a tremendous asset to the company during her five years with Wicked. I am very happy to hear that she and [husband] Steve Lane will be parents soon. I wish them all the best.”

Serenity sold off Las Vegas Novelties to Pipedream Products, closed her website and is completely gone from the industry and from the fans that loved her and bought all of her DVDs.  Adult was lucky to have her.
