As I've reported already, World Cup Fever is leading people to do some crazy shit. Mexican singer Thalía, often referred to by yours truly as the Mexican Talia Shire, caused quite a stir when she posted this picture of her with the Mexican flag covering her tits on Instagram.
According to Latin Times (link below), many people, none of whom were identified in the article, were outraged by this photo. It seems that common sense has prevailed however, as she will not face sanctions by Mexico for the racy pic.
The Interior Ministry said the case does not apply because this happened outside of Mexico, and that therefore it might be a case for the Foreign Ministry. Currently Thalía has remained completely oblivious to the debate.
Something tells me this isn't the only thing Thalía is oblivious to.
This isn't the first time a Mexican celebrity has faced such controversies: her former bandmate Paulina Rubio was fined in 2008 for posing in the Spanish edition of Cosmopolitan magazine naked and covered only with the flag of Mexico. However, because this photoshoot happened IN Mexico, Rubio was indeed liable for a fine. Since Thalía doesn't actually live in Mexico and the photo was taken in the United States, such fines do not apply.
So Mexico's policy is akin to my mom's old policy for R-rated movies. If she caught me watching them at her house, I'd be punished, but she never said anything when I watched them at my friend Jim's house because it wasn't her house and she didn't control the rules there.
