It's a big week for Germany. In addition to winning the World Cup, they also won the title of nudest country at the beach.
Well, in fairness, they tied with their neighbor Austria. All of this comes to us courtesy of USA Today (link below), who published the findings of the annual "Flip Flop" study conducted by the travel website Expedia that is scheduled to be published tomorrow.
For the third consecutive year, Germans were the most likely to sunbathe fully nude, with 28% saying they have spent a day at the beach in the buff. But for the first time this year, Austrians tied them. Worldwide, more men than women prefer to sunbathe nude.
I'm more than willing to guarantee that 100% of the men who prefer to sunbathe nude have a beer gut, a leathery complexion, and own more than one Speedo. And speaking of Speedos, apparently everyone but America and Norway are the only countries that have a problem with them.
Speedos are acceptable attire to nearly three-quarters of beach goers worldwide. A full 95% of Brazilians approve of the skimpy swimwear. Austrians, Germans and Spaniards were nearly as accepting. The least likely to approve of speedos were Norwegians, with just 40% considering it acceptable attire. As for Americans, 57% were fine with speedos.
57 percent? Really? They didn't interview me or anyone I know, so that's got to drop it down to 56 percent at the very least. I find it hard to believe that so many Americans are okay with Speedos. As far as Australian exports go, however, the Speedo still ranks ahead of Paul Hogan and Yahoo Serious.
