Expletive Deleted: A Celebration of Rude Words

EDITORIAL FEATURES

Cunning linguist Jonathon Green has expanded on his extraordinary three-volume dictionary of slang by generating a series of interactive timelines that give insight into the use of dirty words as far back as the 1350s.

The charts even include colour keys to qualify the finer anatomical labelling: for example in 1890 the testicles are described as 'jelly bags', and in 1930 the cock is a 'joy prong'.

The linguistic history of the word 'penis', with helpful colour-coding

Fancy a look?
Here's the chart for the 'bald headed hermit' (aka 'penis').
The 'front parlour', or as many know it, the vagina.
'Splitting the beard', otherwise known as sexual intercourse.
You can learn about 'playing the pink piccolo' and 'dropping anchor in bum bay' here (I think you can guess what those mean).
And this is a comprehensive cataloging of euphemisms for 'goose grease' (bodily fluids) and 'sparrows flying out of one's arse' (orgasms, apparently).

According to Wikipedia, saying rude words in the UK workplace can result in dismissal. I'm amazed I've managed to keep a job as long as I have considering only today I was talking about rimjobs. Back in 2000 a study into which words the British public find most offensive was published (must have been fun reading the questions out). It firmly placed 'cunt' as the number one most rude word - no surprises there. You can view the full list of verbal filth here.

And now, to celebrate, here's Blink 182 singing 'Family Reunion'!
