A Field Guide To Jessica Lowndes

CELEBRITY

nullWe've been aware of Jessica Lowndes (last name rhymes with Pounds) for quite a few years now, but since the recent release of the very sexy video for "Silicone in Stereo," we've found that we just can't get her out of our heads. Who is this girl? What's her deal? And where, exactly, in Canada is she from?\

Jessica Lowndes was born November 8, 1988, in the beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia, and attended the Pacific Academy in Surrey (a Christian private school, for what it's worth) throughout her youth. Though she first gained fame through acting (which we'll get to in a second), it's actually music that was her first love: Jessica started playing the piano when she was just five years old, and started writing music at the age of nine. In her teens, she began recording music, putting together her first EP when she was sixteen years old.

But then Lowndes career took a crazy turn: instead of being launched into a whirlwind touring and recording career, she ended up getting discovered by the producer of Showtime's "Masters of Horror," who cast her in the "Dance of the Dead" episode and set her off on an entirely different career path. Lowndes soon left Vancouver for California's sunny climate, determined to make a go at this acting thing. And what a go she made: once out of Canada, she started scoring roles left and right, appearing in TV movies and series like "Saving Milly," "Kyle X/Y," "Greek," and, most notably, the CW's "90210" reboot.

Not surprisingly, "90210" took Lowndes career to a whole new level. Though her role was originally envisioned as a recurring guest star, she was quickly promoted to series regular – and in a strange turn, "90210" actually managed to jumpstart her music career as well.

Yes, though acting stole some focus away from her music, it ended up being the path to singer/songwriter stardom too. Lowndes's character, Adrianna Tate-Duncan, is an aspiring actress/troubled teen turned pop sensation whose music is frequently featured in the show – music, it just so happens, that is always performed by (and sometimes written by) Lowndes herself. From the very first episode (which featured her singing "Mama Who Bore Me" from Spring Awakening in the school's musical) her musical talent has been a big part of the show – and, not surprisingly, the show has helped her musical career take off like a rocket.

Encouraged by her success on "90210," Lowndes returned to music in a major way in the late aughts. In March 2009, she released "Fly Away" (a track she wrote, sang, and played lead guitar on) on her MySpace page; later that year, she had the honor of singing "God Bless America" at Dodger Stadium (during a game, that is, not just, like, randomly). With her singing cred established, she began to pursue collaborations, getting featured on rapper Ironik's single "Falling In Love" (released on October 24, 2010) and teaming up with French "American Idol" finalist Jérémy Amelin for his single "Undone" (released in 2011). And then, after all the waiting and buildup, Lowndes's solo career finally began to take off.

In 2011 – seven years after she put together that initial EP in the wilds of Vancouver – Lowndes released her very first singles, "Fool" and "I Wish I Was Gay" (the latter accompanied by a music video directed by Frank E. Flowers). In January of the following year, her first official EP, Nothing Like This, hit the airwaves, cementing Lowndes's reputation as a bona fide singer/songwriter/actress. But don't you think she forgot her roots: a year after the release of Nothing Like This, Lowndes announced that fans would have a chance to hear four songs off that EP she'd recorded at sixteen, as she'd be releasing them (through Instagram, somehow) in a second EP cleverly titled Throwback Thursday.

And with the recent release of "Silicone in Stereo," and its aforementioned super sexy video, it's clear that Jessica's career is on the rise (along with our blood pressure, wink wink). Post-"90210," she's been cast in quite a few films (including a few, like "Eden" and "The Prince," where she landed the lead role). And really, at this point, there's only one question remaining: will we ever get to see her naked?

Before this week, we would have said probably not: an innocent Christian girl from Canada, Lowndes's skin exposure had been limited to the occasional upskirt or bootyful Instagram shot. But after seeing what she put on display in "Silicone in Stereo," well... we're a lot more hopeful that Jessica Lowndes future holds a good deal more exposed skin. And even if we never see her fully nude, her stated desire to emulate pop icons like Rihanna and Katy Perry suggests there's a whole lot more sexiness to come in the future.

And to think: we owe it all to "90210."
