A Field Guide To Kamille Leai

CELEBRITY

nullLast month, we told you all about Teyonah Parris, a gorgeous young actress we'd pegged as a possibility for a nude scene on Starz show "Survivor's Remorse." Our prediction has yet to pan out, but at least the show's featured the, ahem, talents of a few other lovely ladies – including the gorgeous Kamille Leai, who brings an interesting backstory along with her.

Kamille Leai was born September 30, some time in the late 80s (we think 1987 or 1988), in Washington, DC, the only child of a firefighter father and a military mother. She's said before that being an only child led her to be a bit spoiled (and, we'd assume, always interested in being the center of attention), which may explain the career path that brought her to fame.

As a young woman, Leai experimented with a few careers, trying her hand at make up artistry (she was a MAC make up artist for six months, stationed at a South Carolina Nordstrom counter) the glamorous life of a Hooters waitress, and modeling before settling into the career she was destined for: being on TV (and in movies). Though these days Leai is a successful model/actress/photographer/entrepreneur, she got her start as a humble reality star, competing for the hand of Kamal "Chance" Givens on VH1 reality series "Real Chance of Love." Leai (also known by her nom de reality show "Hot Wings"), started the show as one of twenty girls competing for the affections of Chance and his brother Ahmad "Real" Givens; after ten episodes, she emerged victorious as Chance's selection.

Shocking though it may seem, winning a dating themed reality show didn't actually lead Hot Wings to a fulfilling, long term relationship – as she later told VH1, "it took me three months just to hear from Chance one time. That was the only time I heard from him since the show, and that was on Twitter" – but the fame did eventually lead to career. Not at first, mind you – in the initial period after "Real Chance of Love," Leai was back at Hooters (although tending bar this time); but after a bit of time (and another reality spot, this time on the fourth season of "I Love Money," where former reality stars compete for, yes, money) she started booking gigs in music videos and print spreads and, finally this year, TV/film roles in projects that weren't VH1 reality shows.

But let's back up a bit. We're showing our bias here, but we have to say that one of our favorite Kamille Leai projects debuted in 2011, when she appeared in the music video for Lloyd's "Naked," bringing the song's title to real, glorious life. Whether or not you're a fan of R&B, you have to appreciate the way Leai strips down, showers, sexts, and generally just shows off her unbelievably sexy body. (Hey, it's not like they hire Hooters waitresses based on their ability to deal challenging customer service situations, right?)

Not that looking damn fine is all that Leai is good at: in 2012, she returned to her make up artist roots and boned up her entrepreneur credentials with her very own make up line, KLeai.Unlike some celebrities who just put their name on any old product and call it a make up line, Leai actually put a good amount of work into hers. In an interview, she explained the difference between KLeai and some celebrity make up competitors, saying that, "I don't wanna be like some of these people that just slap their name on a product and sell it just to make money and say they have a 'line'... A few eyeshadows isn't a 'line' of makeup. And I mean that without the shade. But my line is an actual line. Brow Kits, brow stencils, 150 eyeshadows, mineral shadows, eyeliners, liquid eyeliners in all sorts of colors, lipsticks that come in matte, cream, metallic, lip gloss, liquid foundations, powder foundations, cream foundations, loose foundation, cream blushes, loose eyeshadows, skin care productions, etc... that is a makeup line! That is KLeai Cosmetics." (Regrettably, we can't seem to find any info on the actual line or where we can buy it today, but we're sure that whenever, and wherever, it debuted, it was totally, completely fabulous.)

And now, at last, Leai seems to finally be getting the recognition she deserves as an actress, with multiple roles coming to screens this year. True, there's a certainly underlying current of sexiness to some of the roles she's been getting (in addition to the sex scene in "Survivor's Remorse," she also appears alongside Winter Ave Zoli in "Cat Run 2," a film about a high end call girl with military connections, and in "Satisfaction" (USA's show about male escorts) as, ahem, a "gift" a madam presents to one of her workers), but is that really so bad? After all, if you've got it, you should flaunt it: and boy howdy, does Kamille ever got it.
