October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and James Deen wanted to do something positive for a Breast Cancer charity (unlike the NFL, apparently). The only problem is, a number of charities turned down the chance to work with him to raise money and awareness.
Deen recently told Vocativ (link below) that some charities were, shall we say, less than willing to associate themselves with a porn star.
"All of them pretty much said, off-the-record, 'Yeah, we'll take your money, but we can't say we support this whole porn thing because we're going to lose our sponsorships from huge corporations that don't like porn."
Huge corporations like, oh I don't know, the NFL, who has a problem with porn but sits on their hands when their players commit crimes. Either way, Deen wasn't about to throw in the towel.
So like any good businessman would, he pivoted. And he found some organizations that he could work with. Deen partnered up with Living Beyond Breast Cancer, National Breast Cancer Foundation and The Rose - all nonprofits that not only agreed to accept his donations, but also "give the majority of their money to research and medicine and health, as opposed to advertising and shady stuff."
Deen is donating 50% of the profits from his personal websites for the entire month of October to these three charities. Look at that, even you can give to decent cancer charities too just by patronizing Deen's website. There's also the option to simply make a donation on his site as well, and 100% of those donations will go to the charities.
