One Artist Is Taking A Stand For The Women Of Texas With A Giant Vagina Statue

Texas is to the US what, as Eddie Izzard so astutely pointed out, France is to Europe. When the rest of our country says that everyone must do something, Texas just stands there defiantly and says, "Well… we're not gonna. We're gonna have a sandwich." For but one example, Texas has a simply barbaric set of laws regarding women who choose to get an abortion, a right afforded to women all over the country.

One woman in Texas has decided that enough is enough, however, and has taken to Kickstarter (link below) to protest these laws. Chloe from Austin, which is basically the only city in the state where everyone hasn't lost their minds, wants to create a 6-foot tall, medically accurate statue of a vagina which will stand in support of women in the state who have seen their rights erode bit by bit over the last 20 years.

Here is the gist of the project: I will make this statue and blog all about the progress, after the money is raised we will create it. If more money is raised than is needed (fingers crossed) it will all go to starting a fund to help women in Texas. 

Recently in Texas women's reproductive rights have been taken away at an alarming rate, there are now a handful of cities that have clinics for providing abortions. Many women must travel hundreds of miles and stay overnight in these cities and that is why I want to help. Abortions already cost a good deal of money, adding hotel, food, and transportation on top of that can get crazy. I want to start a group that provides housing, meals, and transportation to women who are traveling for the procedure. That is where you come in. You donate to my project, you get to see a really cool statue get made and the money then goes to help women. My friend who will be designing the sculpture is also a pretty great guy. You will not be disappointed. You will get some pretty cool stuff and hopefully a nice feeling inside.  

Her Kickstarter campaign is already fully funded, but as Chloe herself admitted, this isn't really about the money.

Here's the thing, I am not so much in this for the money, I want to make something meaningful, and use the money to start something that I think is very cool. It started with a vagina (vulva specifically), I want to make a massive vagina statue. Essentially you are funding an art project that will ultimately end in a giant vulva and hopefully make some women's lives better.
