‘Machete XXX’ Is A Thing Now, Surprisingly Doesn’t Star Danny Trejo However

Like a snake eating its own tail, it's tough to know what constitutes an actual parody anymore since parodies of parodies are becoming more and more commonplace. Take the new film Machete XXX for example. Based on the 2010 film Machete, which started life as a fake trailer for the 2007 homage/parody film Grindhouse, it's virtually impossible to know what exactly is being parodied here. 

According to AVN (link below), the film is directed by Tarantino XXX, and will debut exclusively on his new XXXL Ray Network (itself a parody of the newly launched El Rey Network). If all that's not confusing enough, just get a load of this quote from the director.

"We're doing something never done before in porn with this in homage to the original," said Tarantino XXX. "This movie is not an actual feature movie, it's really a fake movie trailer that has four full hardcore sex scenes included so you're really just paying to see a XXX movie trailer, which I don't think has been done before."

So, to recap, it's a feature length parody trailer of a parody trailer which was turned into a parody film and is now being parodied in the style of the original parody. Makes sense to me. 

In the style of the original, there's even cameos by some of the biggest names in the industry like Nina Hartley and James Bartholet, with Tony Bravo stepping into the role of Machete. My only question is why couldn't they actually get Trejo? Have you seen his imdb page? Dude doesn't appear to say no to anything.
