The Brits’ Insistence On Calling Diapers “Nappies” Makes This Study’s Results Inadvertently Hilarious

EDITORIAL FEATURES

With life expectancy at an all-time high, a number of issues that we as a society are ill-equipped to deal with are about the come to the forefront. One such issue is adult incontinence, the products for which UK manufacturers believe will soon outsell products designed to deal with menstruation. What makes this study such a hoot, however, is the fact that Brits call diapers "nappies," making this one of the most inadvertently hilarious studies you'll read today.

According to the Daily Mirror (link below), adult diapers are now outselling infant diapers in Japan, a trend expected to shortly be seen throughout the world.

Around the world, that transition seems already to have taken place. Adult nappies are outselling nappies for babies in Japan, analysts at Pew Research Center believe.

Incontinence is a common problem among the elderly population and, with the average age of populations across the world increasing, the Japanese market is leading the way.

In Japan, people aged 65-and-over account for around a quarter of the overall population, increasing from 17.4% in 2000.

And the population is not getting younger - Japan’s median age will be 53 by 2050 and the birth-rate per woman is still below two.

So what are we as a society to do about all this? Make diaper ads sexy, I suppose, as you can see in that Australian Depends ad above. Take heart diaper fetishists, your days in the shadows are numbered.
