As part of the publicity tour for her new memoir Yes, Please, Amy Poehler stopped by Ellen this week to discuss how she gained inspiration while writing. According to Jezebel (link below), it turns out that writing while topless is Amy's muse.
"I find that writing topless relaxed me," she explained on yesterday's Ellen. The muse works in mysterious ways.
When Ellen asked how she discovered the joy of writing without a shirt on, Poehler replied, "I think it was probably accidental—like, I was out of the shower and was like, 'Ugh, I have to finish this thing!" and was then like, "This feels really good.' And then, as I was writing the book—as you know, anything to get you inspired to write [you've got to do] and, as a treat to myself, I'd be like, 'Do this one topless!'"
In case you were wondering, this is a common practice for writers. Every day when I arrive at work, I announce my presence by whipping off my shirt and casting it out an open window into traffic, often causing a fender bender. It's gotten me a lot of attention, that's for sure. Why just this morning, the HR director shot off an e-mail that she wants to meet with me this afternoon.
