The Golden Raspberry Awards, aka The Razzies, have released their shortlist of films under consideration for awards this year, and you'll be disappointed to discover that there are only two films with nudity in the running for a Worst Picture nomination. According to Variety (link below), there are 12 films vying for the final five slots, and only two of those twelve, Sex Tape and The Interview, have nudity in them.
There was a time not so long ago, the nineties, when flicks with nudity dominated the awards. In fact, from 1992-1997—which was admittedly the heyday of the shitty softcore thriller—every Worst Picture winner had nudity in it. Let's take a look at some films that have be honored with the Worst Picture award and also featured nudity.
1992: Shining Through
Admittedly not the worst of the Michael Douglas bangs his hotter, younger co-star movies—that honor goes to Disclosure—this is still pretty awful. And it's currently streaming on Netflix, so you can see so for yourself just how shitty it is!
1993: Indecent Proposal
In addition to launching a thousand pre-internet memes, Indecent Proposal also conclusively proved that Adrian Lyne was actually a terrible director. He fooled people by snagging an Oscar nomination for Fatal Attraction and directing the underrated Jacob's Ladder, but at heart, he was always just a glorified Zalman King.
1994: Color of Night
Perhaps the only thing on Bruce Willis' resume more embarrassing than "The Return of Bruno," this softcore thriller gave us our first look at Willis' dick. The only thing this film didn't address was how they got that fucking hairpiece of his to stay on considering how much of this film he spends in the water.
1995: Showgirls
Until Battlefield Earth, and later Jack & Jill, Showgirls had the distinction of winning the most awards for a single film in Razzies history. Director Paul Verhoeven also had the distinction of being the first person ever to show up and accept his Razzie in person. Nowadays people do this more frequently, but he was the first.
1996: Striptease
Man, Bruce and Demi were a Razzies power couple—Bruno also won for Hudson Hawk in 91—but I'm going to go ahead and stick up for Striptease. Burt Reynolds is brilliant in this movie. Yes, the movie is mostly a bore, but Reynolds is fantastic and worth the price of admission alone.
1997: The Postman
The worst of Kevin Costner's runaway vanity projects by a mile, The Postman is total garbage. The only reason I saw it was because I heard it had Olivia Williams nude in it, and I was in love with her after I saw Rushmore. This was in the days before Mr. Skin so I didn't have a choice.
2005: Dirty Love
I don't know anyone that's seen this movie. Literally, no one I know has seen this. I also think the Razzies committee hasn't seen it either.
2006: Basic Instinct 2
I remember going to see my doctor shortly after this movie came out and the gay receptionist told me that he went to see this to enjoy it ironically and ended up walking out. I immediately lost any and all desire to see it.
2013: Movie 43
This one I did see. Couldn't tell you anything about it, but I know I saw it.
So yeah, Sex Tape and The Interview. They might have had a shot if they came out in the 90s, but I think they're doomed to lose, probably to that Kirk Cameron movie or Transformers 4, because if there's one thing that the Razzies are not, it's surprising.
