So what provoked, Ben Mankiewicz’s remark? Well after Atchity declared that the only way to really enjoy watching Strange Magic is doing so with the sound down, he then chimed in with the immortal words that are now likely to haunt him for the rest of his career, “That’s how I had to watch incest porn.”
As soon as that collection of words left Mankiewicz’s mouth you could see both Atchity and Lemire recoil in horror. Well, it actually provoked a stunned chortle from Atchity at first.
At this point, Mankiewicz tried to explain himself out of the immensely awkward situation by clarifying,”You got to turn the sound down. Then it’s just porn.”
Atchity then remarked, “I love how we were talking about a kids movie, and you bring up incest porn!”
Lemire actually tried to move away from the subject, only for Mankiewicz to voluntarily re-enter it by adding, “Every guy gets that moment when their friend hands them a box of old porn and one of the tapes was incest porn.”
As Atchity insisted that this scenario had never happened to him, Mankiewicz once again interjected with, “Just to be clear, because we are all grown-ups, it was the 22-year-old daughter. But then you’re like it’s her dad and I’ll just mute it.”
Kids, say a prayer for Ben. His career lasted longer than it had any right to, and hopefully this will officially be the end of it.
