Lots of people enjoying flipping through reddit’s NSFW section, unless you come across a nude picture of yourself that you didn’t want posted. Well, those days appear to be numbered since reddit has decided to update their privacy guidelines.
Coming months after hundreds upon hundreds of hacked celebrity photos found their way onto reddit message boards, reddit changed its old policy of letting users police the forums and decided to step in. A statement released by reddit’s executive team in part read:
"Last year, we missed a chance to be a leader in social media when it comes to protecting your privacy -- something we've cared deeply about since reddit's inception.
"No matter who you are, if a photograph, video, or digital image of you in a state of nudity, sexual excitement, or engaged in any act of sexual conduct, is posted or linked to on reddit without your permission, it is prohibited on reddit," the company's executive team wrote. "We also recognize that violent personalized images are a form of harassment that we do not tolerate and we will remove them when notified."
The new policy will go into effect March 10th and reddit will also begin to keep track of how many photos they removed and put those numbers in their annual reports.
