Avid comic book readers will know that openly gay characters have slowly been working their way into the comic universe. While Northstar from the widely ignored Marvel title Alpha Flight is said to be the first openly gay comic book character, coming out in issue #106 in 1992, the twenty-first century has seen an upswing in gay characters. Northstar is hardly a household name, especially outside of the comic book world, but in recent times notable characters like DC’s Kate Kane aka Batwoman and Alan Scott aka Green Lantern have each embraced their sexuality in the pulpy pages of comics.
Outside of Wonder Woman, the only other comic book heroine that screams lesbian is Catwoman. Right? Right. In the newest issue of the DC comic, Catwoman #39, the titular troublemaker Selina Kyle kisses Eiko Hasigawa, a sexy chick that has taken over as Catwoman as Selina has taken on the role of a crime boss. Right now, those in the know are labeling the sexy feline a bisexual, because we all know that she still has a thing for Batman. Who came blame her. Batman is a hunk.
