Irish Abstinence Pamphlet From The 90s Is Hilarious, Terrifying

EDITORIAL FEATURES

Abstinence education is a joke, so it's great to see a pamphlet like this which opens with a huge, bald faced lie right on the cover. Reality, eh?

This awesome pro-abstinence pamphlet comes to us courtesy of The Mirror (link below), and was widely taught in Irish schools during the 1990s, the decade when people like Bronson Pinchot and Pauly Shore were headliners. Let's take a look inside, shall we?

Whatever quack doctor told him that condoms fail 1/3 of the time should have their medical license revoked. Condoms are closer to 97% successful if used properly, and user error contributes to an almost identical percentage of condom failure issues. All that aside, let's see what else this pamphlet's got to say...

Again they're going the "Condoms often fail" route. Well yeah, condoms fail when you've got this being shoved down kids' throats rather than, you know, proper condom usage.

Alright, so this one bothers me. There are no contraceptives that "cause abortions," and calling a fertilized egg a "tiny child" is blatant fear mongering. So let's get to the reason we're all here...

Yes, abstinence is the only guaranteed way to prevent the spread of STDs, but it doesn't work. Teaching teens to repress their hormones and feelings is only going to cause them to implode. Guilt and fear mongering are the only two effective weapons wielded by religious organizations, not just in sex education, but in general. I would invite anyone who thinks that abstinence education works to politely and gently suck my balls.
