Kristen Wiig Talks About Being Nude For “Welcome To Me”

Kristen Wiig is known for her goofy and silly roles on Saturday Night Live and more recently, for her successful quirky comedies like Bridesmaids and The Skeleton Twins, but in her new film she takes her comedy a little darker and a lot more naked.  

In the movie Welcome to Me, Wiig plays a woman with a personality disorder who wins the lottery and decided to spend her money on a talk show about herself, believing the show will be just like Orpah’s show. As you can guess, Wiig’s character Alice Kleig is put in a lot of odd situations, one of which is walking through a casino completely nude.

“That scared me because I knew if I did the movie I’d have to do that scene,” she says. “I didn’t want to say yes and then take that scene out. I just thought it was important to the story and the character—so the thinking was if I make this movie then I have to do the scene where I’m totally naked.”

Wiig noted being nude wasn’t the only scary part of undressing in front of the cameras. She really wants the audience to understand her character when she disrobes.

“She’s also very emotional and you don’t want to make fun of her. You’re talking about borderline personality disorder and you have to respect that. You don’t want to offend anybody. You just want to do the right thing.”

Welcome to Me hits theaters early next month.
