Right around this time last year, Elizabeth Olsen told Marie Claire that she's taking a break from doing nudity. Now, as if that same interview were still going on, Elizabeth has admitted that she not only doesn't regret doing nudity, but she thinks other actresses shouldn't be so damn scared of nudity.
While promoting the upcoming film Avengers: Age of Consent, the best of all the Olsen sisters told Net-a-Porter (link below) that her nudity role model is Kate Winslet, mainly because Kate similarly gave zero fucks about getting naked on film.
“I love Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett. I remember watching Holy Smoke and thinking that it was so reassuring to see a young Kate doing something that was so bold in so many ways,” she says. “I thought to myself, ‘OK, so it doesn’t destroy your career if you appear nude or take risks.’ Because not everyone in my family and group of friends thought it was the best idea to be naked in a movie. There are actresses, young and old, who have decided never to do that and they become these examples people talk to you about.”
Nevertheless, she says, “there are times when I like to do it”, in Spike Lee’s edgy 2013 remake of Oldboy, for example. “You want that voyeuristic quality, but I never feel I have to be nude – and you won’t ever see me in a beauty shot in a bikini on a beach. That’s a character I will never play.”
Okay, Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy was a lot of things. A whole lot of things. Edgy was not one of them. Good on her, though, for realizing that nudity is not a career killer. Please re-tweet this article to the following actresses: Jessica Alba, Christina Hendricks, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Angela Lansbury.
