Nothing beats watching porn in a theater, and if you happen to find yourself in or near Vancouver tonight, you can go do just that. Ed Wood's long lost 1972 hardcore film The Young Marrieds will be screening tonight at the RIO Theater, and attendees will be treated to the rarely seen uncut 61-minute version of the film.
As we told you last August, the film was thought lost to the sands of time, but was actually re-discovered by "porn archaeologist" Dimitrios Otis. According to XBIZ (link below), it's Otis' own personal copy of the film which is being shown tonight, as opposed to the 52-minute version that was released on DVD this past November.
The 1972 X-rated film was both written and directed by Wood using the pseudonyms Richard Trent and Hank Barnum.
Featured in the movie is "The Killing of a Chinese Bookie " actress Alice Friedland in a hardcore sex role. The movie played a series of dates in 1974 in New York and Los Angeles before disappearing for 30 years. It turns out several copies were shipped to Canada in various cuts, with the full-length 61-minute version surviving.
Otis said drawing on fears of “freaks and weirdos” to quaint suburban heterosexuality, "The Young Marrieds" is cunningly subversive to the straight porn genre, macho male sexual heroics, and the (supposedly) straight male audience that frequented the adult cinemas. Otis will be in attendance for a Q&A session.
Tickets are $10 if purchased in advance, and honestly, where else are you going to get to see cinematic history? That's a small price to pay to bask in the glow of Ed Wood porn for 61 minutes.
