In my column Only in Florida, I'll be taking you down to the Sunshine State for the latest and greatest sex stories that can only be found in the craziest state in the union.
Meet former fake plastic surgeon Mark Schreiber...
Mark here somehow had his own medical practice despite having his license to do so revoked seven years ago, but that's okay because this is Florida, and the last thing we want is licensed medical professionals performing penis enlargement surgeries. In fact, the only reason Mark's practice went under is because he botched one of those aforementioned penis enlargement surgeries...
Now, in the latest turn in a troubled career, the Tamarac resident who lost his license to practice medicine seven years ago has been charged in connection with a botched surgery that left a man with a deformed, one-inch-long penis and unable to have sex.
Arrested without incident at his home, Schreiber, 60, was being held without bond in the Broward County jail Tuesday on one count of unlicensed practice of health care causing serious injury.
Inside his home, investigators found home breast implants and other items indicating "he may have been doing clandestine surgeries on other people who don't know or who don't care about his history," said Sgt. Carl Zogby of the Hialeah Police Department, which sought the arrest warrant.
"He does this sort of gypsy thing, peddling his services to unscrupulous dealers."
So he's something of a nomadic plastic surgeon, eh? You may be wondering how it is that he lost his license in the first place. Let's find out, shall we...
In August 2008, Schreiber pleaded guilty in Palm Beach County to four felony charges of practicing medicine without a license in exchange for a sentence of two years in prison plus a year of probation.
He also paid $15,000 each to four women who say he botched their lip, eye and breast procedures. As a four-time convicted felon, he was barred from seeking or obtaining a medical license again, according to the plea deal.
Schreiber, released from prison in March 2010, was practicing without a license in January, Hialeah police say, when he was hired to remove from a man's penis a "filler" material that had been injected into his organ to make it longer and thicker.
Instead, the 55-year-old hair stylist was left with a deformed penis and unable to function sexually, police said.
