Enter to Meet Co-Host jessica drake at the FSC's "Capes & Panties" Party!
Porn superstar/director jessica drake is the kind of porn star that my nana would be proud I work in the same industry as. Don't get me wrong—drake can be as filthy as her scenes require her to be and has won many AVN Awards for her acting and her sexy, dirty work in front of the camera, but she is a whole lot more than all of that spilled fluid. She is a true lady who does what she can to help the less fortunate, and I believe her career turn into the realm of sexual education is another example of her desire for everyone to have the best time that they can on this planet. She is really that good a person, folks. I have admired drake and her work in porn and in charities for years. When Drake supports a cause, she has researched it carefully. Take a minute before you read this interview with her and click here to learn more about the Free Speech Coalition and how it protects the porn you love watching. Here are drake's answers to twenty questions about her life and career so far:
What kind of girl were you back in high school? Who did you hang out with or date?
"I was the nerdy, awkward, skinny girl. I was in honors classes and walked around with my nose in a book. I hung out with anyone, really, usually other kids in honors classes or on dance team. I only dated two guys in high school, but I had way more sex than most girls OR guys back then. I knew I was 'different' sexually, but didn't have good Sex Ed growing up and never understood hormones or pleasure... or kink. Luckily, that changed."
Were you a porn fan before you got into the industry? Who were your favorite porn stars and favorite porn movies?
"YES. I remembering finding porn that belonged to my boyfriend's father. Watching it was not only exciting, but strangely reassuring—I saw things that I had only fantasized about, and it made me feel better ... like 'Oh! Other people are into this too!' The first movie I ever saw was House of Dreams from Andrew Blake.
"I loved Asia Carrera, Janine and Julia Ann, Sydnee Steele, and Jill Kelly. I was taken onto a Jill Kelly set before I started, and it was so surreal to me. I was also a big fan of Michael Ninn, Andrew Blake, and Wicked as a company."
What do you think shaped you into the director that you are today?
"I think it's a combination. I learned that I should know how to do as much as possible myself from Brad Armstrong. Wicked's encouragement and support has helped me grow creatively as more than just as a performer, and I have been inspired as an educator over the years by Candida Royalle, Betty Dodson, Nina, Tristan, and others. As far as my own style, I think it's been shaped mostly by my own personal style and preference. I'm currently working on something very different—for me and Wicked—and I can't wait to share!"
Who are your favorite male performer or female performer to hire and work with and why?
"I can't pick favorites—they change way too often. My true favorites are performers who are strong willed and sexually expressive. Right now I like Dani Daniels, Maddy O'Reilly, and Casey Calvert, and my BIGGEST woman crush is Asa Akira, but I'm pretty sure everyone already knows that. As for guys, I admire Brad, Tommy Pistol, Kurt Lockwood, Derrick Pierce, Tyler Nixon, Barrett Blade, and Eric Masterson, and I miss Randy Spears terribly."
What edition of your “Guide to Wicked Sex” series do you find yourself recommending most?
"It really depends on who I'm recommending it to. Female Masturbation is beautiful, and it serves women who want to better their sex lives and explore their own erotic potential. I love the authentic orgasms in it. It's very genuine. Plus Size Sex is very well reviewed and received; it's the first resource of its kind for people of size in a genre that's most often seriously misrepresented. BDSM for Beginners is great for people who saw Fifty Shades and have the idea that they want to experiment with BDSM, and it's a very basic introduction. Fellatio always does well, because... Blow jobs! Anal Sex is a best seller also, and is one of my more popular topics for workshops."
What can you share about your role in the upcoming Stormy Daniels-directed feature “Wanted?”
"It's small, but good. I play a wife trying to poison her husband, and Steven St Croix makes for an awesome cohort. I'm really glad to have been a part of the project, Stormy has wanted to do it for about as long as I've known her. She did a great job."
What do you like most about directing for Wicked Pictures?
"Everything. :)"
What do you think are “must-own” DVDs for your fans?
"From my titles, I'd say Fluff and Fold, The Collector, One Man's Obsession, FUCK, Wicked Games, Speed, 2040, Manhunters, The Craving 1 & 2, Love Always, Three Days in June, Aftermath, Underworld, Snow White XXX, my newest, Starmaker, and my personal all time favorite, Fallen."
Can you explain to fans why their support of the Free Speech Coalition is important?
"Laws are changing right underneath us, and we need the support and resources of the FSC to address issues and defend us. Most recently, and for quite some time now, we are fighting what seems to be a very personal battle with someone who apparently has a vendetta against our business—Michael Weinstein. The FSC needs our financial support in order to keep fighting for and with us."
What is coming up in the "Guide to Wicked Sex" series?
"jessica drake's Guide to Wicked Sex: Foreplay releases next month, and after that, Sensual Massage."
You will be doing AIDS Walk L.A. again this year. What does your participation in the event mean to you, personally?
"I started doing AIDS Walk L.A. five years ago, and was a Starwalker two years in a row, when I decided to form TEAM WICKED. APLA is a great organization doing HIV/AIDS research and prevention, and this is a cause I hold very dear. For me personally, it's a great feeling to rally people for a cause, get fans to participate, and spread awareness. Over the past three years, TEAM WICKED raised over $53,000, and we hope to add to that this year. I think it's a better cause than a wish list."
Who are your role models in porn and how or why do they inspire you?
"They change constantly. Currently, it's girls like Asa Akira, Stormy, and other strong-willed performers who guide their own careers in their own unique ways. I also give thanks to the same kind of women who came before us—in a time when women weren't given as much freedom to create and be in control as we are now. They inspire me to create and to be bold, while finding my own style."
What can we look for in your upcoming directorial releases?
"Since I started my educational line, I've not directed any features, but I do have two scripts I'd love to get done this next year—Burnout and LoveSick. I'm also starting to work on a very special pet project, but for now, that's under wraps."
What is the best mainstream movie you have seen recently?
"'American Ultra' (I know, I need to get out more!). It was a good escape movie. I'm still more of a reader than a movie watcher. Irony."
How about the best porno movie? Is there someone whose movies you like to watch who is working now?
"I'm still Brad Armstrong's biggest fan. His movie Holly Would was SO good, and Starmaker is about to come out. I think he's so good, I even watch the movies that aren't mine. I also like Jacky St James, and though he doesn't do it much, Scott Allen is a great director of ours."
Candida Royalle’s death was a solid loss to the adult industry. What can you share about your time with her and her influence on your work?
"Candida was an inspiration to me even before I chose the path of Sex Education. She too was a performer first, and throughout the years really evolved and left her mark as a feminist in the industry. I admired her from afar, but was finally able to meet her last year at Catalyst. It had been an awful year for me—slowly losing my favorite person in the world to Alzheimer's, drowning in work, and not being emotionally able to handle everything all at once- so I sought her out looking for advice. She gave it to me. She was so sincere; I was amazed and flattered she knew who I was, and I am honored to have had that time with her. I think we need to remember and appreciate her contributions while making our own. If you do not know who she is, stop reading this right now and do your research."
If you could cast any celebrities to do an epic sex scene for you, who would you cast? Give us your male and female choices and tell us what you would ask of them.
"I'm horrible with celebrity names... just @wickedsensualgive me Rocco Siffredi, Belladonna, Toni Ribas, and Asa Akira ... and lots of lube. I wouldn't ask anything... except maybe 'What's the safe word?'"
Who is your favorite superhero?
"I like the ones everyone knows- Superman and Spider-Man. I also love Superwoman and Storm, and wish I could be the Invisible Woman. I'd get so much done!"
What else should fans be looking for from you in the coming months?
"I'm everywhere! New movies, new instructionals, dancing, doing seminars and workshops all over the U.S. and in other countries too. Follow me on Twitter to stay up to date:
