Rob Lowe Talks About His Sex Tape

To promote his new show The Grinder, presumably based on the gay hookup app, Rob Lowe talked with notorious quote whore Peter Travers about his career. Since Lowe is generally thought to have a good sense of humor about his career, talk eventually turned—as it always should—to Lowe's 1988 sex tape scandal, about which Lowe no longer has a choice but to be good natured. 

According to ABC News (link below), Lowe is surprised that people are now parlaying sex tapes into lucrative careers, and yeah, you know who I'm talking about when I say that. Everyone does.

Lowe appears to have learned a lot from his long history in the spotlight. And he looks back thoughtfully on both his successes and stumbles, like that infamous sex tape that almost derailed his career.

“It cost me money,” Lowe joked. “I think the concept now is, I’m told, you make money from them. I didn’t get that part right. It cost me money.”

"So tell us about The Lyon's Den, Rob. How was it leaving The West Wing to headline your own show?"

Fits like a glove. Still, nothing in Lowe's career is as embarassing as that time he sang and danced with Snow White for the better part of fifteen minutes on the Oscars—except perhaps I Melt With You, which is a steaming pile of shit. But he's even got a witty retort at the ready for that too...

“Many people followed my footsteps, Anne Hathaway, James Franco -- they were studying me,” Lowe said. “They didn’t have a Lucille Ball waiting in the green room, waiting for them and saying, 'I had no idea you were such a marvelous singer,'” Lowe recalled, impersonating the famous comedian’s voice. “Come sit with me and get me an aspirin.”
