Sadly, There Is No “Feria Clitoris” (Clitoris Festival)

While Google is probably the best search engine out there and the owner of most of our email accounts, they aren’t perfect at everything. If you’ve used the Google Voice features, the results can be very comical. Same goes for Google Translate. For example, Google changed one single word for a small town in Spain annual vegetable festival and instead invited everyone to the "Feria Clitoris" (Clitoris Festival).  

Sadly, there is no Clitoris festival (probably because most men wouldn’t be able to find it – BOOM! Sex joke!). There is, however, a festival in the town of As Pontes, in the community of Galicia, over in Spain to celebrate the leafy green veggie known as rapini or broccoli rabe, which I should mention is quite delicious, but can be hard to find in the grocery store. The members of the Galicia town hall had Google Translate to give them the Spanish language translation of "Feria do grelo" (Rapini Festival) for the website and when it came back, they were surprised to learn that Google changed the Galician word “grelo” with the word “clitoris.” Here are a couple of highlights for the website:  

“The clitoris is one of the typical products of Galician cuisine,"  

"Since 1981, the festival has made the clitoris one of the star products of the local gastronomy."  

The members the Galicia town hall are considering filing formal complaint with Google in the hopes that this will never happen again. Man, the phrase “eating your greens” has a whole new meaning now. I kind of hope the slang catches on.
