By now, the nation has fallen in love with pegging, the act of taking a strap-on in the ass. But I was confused through the filming of Black Widow Productions' "Pegging 101", in which men got the business end of a strap-on from sassy porn tarts as punishment for a variety of misdemeanors. Was it gay? Was it straight? Was it strict BDSM or a Top/bottom relationship? Out of my humdrum vanilla implants 'n' blowjobs element, I asked around. More after the gap. - G. Ponante

I asked Lady Bastette, a professional domme living in Los Angeles, how she would categorize the following scenario found in "Pegging 101":
"A man goes to a strip club and undertips the dancer. In retaliation, she and a girlfriend humiliate him by taking to him with a strap-on, after which they blow him."
I explained that the male talent were found on Craigslist for an amount of money lower than what the fellas usually get for straight or gay porn, putting this role in a hard-to-define category.
"In my world the guy would pay me for strap on action," she said, "(but) not that a professional domme would give it, because it's sex."
I mentioned that the man in the scene in question made a lot of nervous-sounding wisecracks throughout his scene.
"Well," she said, "You've either got a top and bottom or a dominant and submissive. A bottom doesn't need to be submissive. Neither does a slave."
"So this guy was a bottom?" I asked.
"A bottom is into pain, humiliation and restraint, but they never seem to give up their control of the scene," she said.
"And it wouldn't be out of the question that, after his humiliation, he got some relief?" I asked.
"In most cases, sex is more prevalent in an area outside the scene itself," she said.
But whither "pegging"? Writer Dan Savage says the term came from a prizewinning entry to his "Savage Love" column in 2001, describing females penetrating straight males with dildos.
Jay Moyes, editor of BDSM resource page Black and Blue USA, believes pegging has historical roots, sending along a passage from Mack Friedman's "Strapped for Cash", which Moyes called "an incredibly enlightening book on gay and transgender prostitution":
"...(F)rontier America's male brothels, or "peg houses," which took their name from the Mediterranean brothel tradition of displaying available boys on a long rack. The boys were anally impaled on pegs of various sizes abutting the rack, to help customers choose an appropriately capacious catamite."
So what's the verdict? Sounds like a Top/bottom affair with a glistening pornish sheen. "Pegging 101" stars Kinzie Kenner, Annie Cruz, Tyla Wynn, Jeanie Marie, and Vixen.
