"Enjoy The Silence" by Depeche Mode: I really think this is synthpop at its best. The melody stands the test of time and the melancholy, romantic lyrics are irresistible.

"Human" by Sevdaliza: A haunting, flayed-naked examination of physicality set to brooding electronica with vintage-cum-modern stylings. Watch the surreal music video for extra art cred.

"Paralyzed" by The Cardigans: Anyone over the age of 27 can sing Lovefool from memory, but please do check out the stark contrast of this driving, eerie opening track from the same album.

"Humming" by Portishead: Portishead's work often has a noir flavor, and this song in particular oozes with fatalism, menace, and sex appeal.
