No More 1970s Music And Merkins
This morning if you had asked me why I was crying in my cornflakes, I would have looked at you with my tear soaked cheeks and replied; “Vinyl was canceled.” Yes, my heart and the hearts of others are full of sadness today because the show that gave us Olivia Wilde, Juno Temple, Frances Eve, and Kati Sharp nudity is no more.
Even though the show was renewed for a second season about a month ago, it would appear the higher-ups at HBO have changed their minds. The released a statement that said, in part:
“After careful consideration, we have decided not to proceed with a second season of Vinyl. Obviously, this was not an easy decision. We have enormous respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on this project.”
If I had to guess, I would say the decision probably came down to the cost versus the viewership. I don’t think the show ever had super high ratings, which is crazy to believe when you think about the wonderful nudity the show gave us. I mean, Olivia Wilde merkin anyone? Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if the upcoming show Westworld (which promises to be filled with nudity and genital-to-genital contact) is where HBO is sinking all of their money.

Still, I can’t help, but feel bad. Vinyl gave us so much and it never really got the chance to bloom. Sigh, we will miss you Vinyl, thanks for the merkins – I mean memories!
