Helen Mirren Gives Zero Fucks About This Interview
Dame Helen Mirren is one of my favorite actresses ever, and Entertainment Weekly just found this particularly interesting interview from back in 1975. She was on the show "Parkinson" (yep, like the disease) to promote her role as Lady Macbeth in the Scottish play as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Critics back in the day paid way more attention than they should to her curves rather than to her epic skill as an actress. In fact, the critics that interviewer/show host Michae Parkinson goes on at length to quote how critics and film reviewers of the day seemed to not give her any credit as being talented and just being a pretty face with just bangin' tits and ass.
In fact, she responded to Parkinson asking if her looks got in the way of being a "serious actress." “Because serious actresses can’t have big bosoms, is that what you mean? What a crummy performance if people are obsessed with the size of your bosom or anything else.”
Fuck yeah!
So yeah, she has been a totally cool chick her whole damn life. I love you, Dame!
