Eggplant Condoms? Yes, Please!
Condom maker Durex had Twitter freaking out over the launch of their new flavored condom series starting out with an eggplant-flavored one meant to begin a "savory" condom line. The Brits use the word "aubergine" and had no idea what an "eggplant" was but once they did, oh, no one liked it.
Durex already has a flavored condom line and all of this turned out to be a hoax. The company used the popular eggplant-as-a-penis emoji as a springboard for the prank that was designed to raise awareness out in the world about flavored condoms and safe sex. They also want emoji makers to make a condom emoji so that we can all express ourselves on our smart phones with an image of a rubber and that is not the worst idea I have ever heard. Being able to talk about birth control and/or STI protection with your partner(s) is really fucking important and if an email makes people have that conversation with some cutesy images making the talk easier....well, a condom emoji should happen.
In the meantime, we all are stuck with fruit flavored condoms--all dessert, no meat or veggies.
