Kind of Changes the Meaning of "The More You Know"
As the great men and women of the heroic fighting force G.I. Joe taught us, “Knowing is half the battle.” They may have been animated, but they doesn’t make their words any less true. Knowledge is power, and when it comes to sex education, the more you know, the better you’ll be. Thankfully I’m not alone in thinking this: Shailene Woodley wants female masturbation to be included in sex ed.
Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I don’t know if I can full describe the feeling I had upon learning Shailene Woodley was speaking out about something that really does need to be fixed in our education system.
“As a young woman you don’t learn how to pleasure yourself, you don’t learn what an orgasm should be, you don’t learn that you should have feelings of satisfaction. I’ve always had a dream of making a book called There’s No Right Way to Masturbate. If masturbation were taught in school, I wonder how [many] fewer people would get herpes at aged 16, or pregnant at 14?”
And to those out there who are saying; “Well, what about male masturbation? Should that be taught as well?” The answer to that question is no. Dudes don’t need lessons on figure out to choke the chicken - I’m pretty sure that’s in our DNA. So, hats off to you, Shailene Woodley, you social justice and education reform champion. Please know that all of us are on your side and believe that female masturbation, sex for pleasure, and everything else involved in two (or more) people making love needs to be taught in schools.
