Five Sexy and Smart Acting Moments!

The AVN Award nominations are out, and it's clear that porn had another wonderful, creative, hot year. The nominations list showcases what is happening and what is possible in the porn medium, and the nominees in the Best Actor category show how storytelling can be used to make sex just that much more hotter and emotionally and sexually resonant for the viewer.

There are 15 nominees in the Best Actor category, and here, I have chosen the five performances that moved me and turned me on the most of what I saw this year. Richie Calhoun in New Sensations' "The Submission of Emma Marx - Exposed"

This is the final entry in this excellent, award-winning series directed by Jacky St. James, who has since moved on to Sweet Sinner/Mile High Media. Calhoun has received wide critical acclaim and award nominations for his work in the role of William Frederick, the master/husband of Penny Pax who plays the titular role in this series. Calhoun's performance and the resolution of his character's fate brought me to tears and that is just not something that a porn movie gets out of me that often. He gets to do three super hot scenes in this. The first is with Pax, where they share a hot vag fuck with an anal toy assist for fun. A scene with Samantha Hayes follows where Calhoun's former submissive Sara Luvv watches the action with palpable longing while not participating in the action. A BGG threeway with Pax and Slutwoman Aidra Fox is wonderful, with Pax giving Calhoun all of the pleasure he wants from her. Here's my review of this title.

Danny D. in Digital Playground's "Sherlock: A XXX Parody"

British hunk D. plays the lead role in this super British parody of the BBC/PBS series "Sherlock" that stars Benedict Cumberbatch. D. is a performer that I ended up introducing to a bunch of my female friends this year after I interviewed him and wrote about his NS Novelties signature dildo. After they got an eyeful of what D. is packing, they HAD to see more of him, and this movie is a great place to do just that. He plays the world's greatest detective well with Ella Hughes as his assistant Jane Watson. He investigates her pussy thoroughly with his cock and it is the hottest scene in this, although his scenes with Nikita Bellucci, Stella Cox, and Sienna Day are all great too.

Marcus London in Wicked Pictures' "Devil Inside"

AVN Hall of Famer Mike Quasar directs this excellent feature where professor London finds himself being seduced and manipulated by devious young college student Elsa Jean. London delivers a strong acting performance here as an older man who is almost a hostage to his own lust and Jean truly has her as putty in her paws. The two do a hot-as-fuck scene together and the movie as a whole is truly made whole by his work. Here's the review I did of this feature back when it came out this summer - it's a hot movie.

Tommy Pistol in Wicked Comix's "Suicide Squad XXX: An Axel Braun Parody"

Pistol stars as The Joker in the role done notably by Jared Leto in the mainstream DC Comics movie release. The mainstream movie was critically panned but was undeniably a summer blockbuster, and Pistol does the work of a true acting craftsman bringing together a cohesive, realized Joker character when nothing of the mainstream Leto performance was available was available for Pistol to watch, other than a single teaser trailer. Pistol is dangerous, menacing and very hot in his performance in this. He shares his sweet and psychotic Harley Quinn played by Kleio Valentien, who received her own acting nomination for her work in this movie with Batman Charles Dera. Steven St. Croix in B. Skow/Girlfriends Films' "Color Blind"

AVN Hall of Famer St. Croix gives an excellent performance in this drama, directed by B. Skow that takes place in a very racially charged 1992 Los Angeles neighborhood. The movie sends the message of the stupidity of racism loud and clear to the viewer, and St. Croix's work in the role of an overbearing father/husband pushes the point home well. The sex here is also hot as fuck as he gets it on with his sexy wife Reena Sky in a very hot pairing. St. Croix goes on to enjoy prostitute Layton Benton, who generously shared what she loved about her work with St. Croix with us here.
