Some Call It Art, Other Call It Fart

In my column Only in Florida, I'll be taking you down to the Sunshine State for the latest and greatest sex stories that can only be found in the craziest state in the union.

There has been and probably always will be a debate whether graffiti is an art form or a stupid crime. I'm pretty sure we've all seen something spray painted on the side of a building that looked pretty cool, but also seen someone's name sloppily painted a stop sign. And of course, there's Banksy, who has created some of the greatest works of art on the sides of buildings. And now, it would seem that someone in Florida is following in the footsteps of all the great graffiti artists that came before them by tagging building with three butts.

Last April was the first time the three butts appeared, but since then they have popped up everywhere. Usually, there are three butts, but sometimes there are four, all together. While tagging seems to be on the rise, the St. Petersburg Police aren't having much success tracking down the three butt tagger and others. St. Petersburg assistant police chief James Previtera noted that of the 550 recently removed tags only about 5 people have been arrested, none of them claim the honor of the three butt tagger.

"We're mostly concerned with investigating the graffiti that people report to us, the ones that cause real damage to private property that costs people money," Previtera said.

Now, there is a chance the three butt tagger may be found due the words "neverfart" added to a recent three butt tag. There is an Instagram account where #neverfart seems to have originated:

Searching "#neverfart" on Instagram turned up, among many others, an account for Soft Hoagie Rolls, which mostly posts photos of local skaters and zine-style collages. They'd also posted a very familiar-looking butt drawing.

That butt photo led to the Instagram account of Jeremy Trevino, filled with pages on pages of butts in hilariously rendered situations. There are skateboarding butts, butts boxing each other, butts baking cookies. The drawings look similar to the butt graffiti, but more detailed.

Of course, Mr. Trevino could neither confirm nor deny that he is the three butt tagger, but did note that he's seen the work and it does look a little like his work, only a crapper version. So, just like the true identity of Banksy, we may never know who is really behind the three butts.

But we must ask ourselves, what is the person trying to say? What do they want to draw our attention to? Are they saying we are all three butts? Are they saying the world smells like a butt and we have to come together? Yes, those three butts really make you think.
