Tom Brinkmann's upcoming book "Bad Mags" has all the makings of a down-and-dirty cult classic, promising to "illuminate the darker recesses of 'pop lit'—focusing upon the strangest, sleaziest and most unusual periodicals and tabloids published in the US from the fifties through the eighties." Simply the mention of sexploitation, occult sex and "mondo bizarre" has me in a zombie-like trance until the book's release; until then I'll take comfort in the many lovely scans on Brinkmann's Bad Mags site. -V.
