We-Vibe Kept Users' Buzzing Data
We-Vibe has settled the class action lawsuit against them for $3.75 million, following allegations that the company was keeping information about the times and durations of the usage habits of the people who bought these toys from them. We-Vibe admitted zero wrongdoing in the settlement that was announced on Monday.
The We-Vibe vibrator line uses a "We-Connect" app which connects the toys' owners to the We-Vibe serves which send them special vibration patterns only available with the app and also enables the users to create and store custom vibration patterns. The app also allows the toy's owner to give control of the toy to anyone they choose to, which makes these perfect for long-distance fucking purposes. Unfortunately according to the toy owners in the lawsuit, We-Vibe stored the email addresses of the toy owners and linked those addresses to a record of the toy's usage without getting anyone's consent. The company has since changed the privacy statement for users of the We-Vibe line and has agreed to stop collecting email addresses.
The amount that people are going to get as part of the suit depends on whether they downloaded the app and used it with their toy or not. If you bought a We-Vibe, have proof of your purchase and downloaded the We-Connect app before September 26th of last year, you could be due some cash.
