Rose McGowan Says Her “Grindhouse” Experience Made Her Quit Acting

Rose = Not a "Grindhouse" Fan

Rose McGowan quit acting in 2015 after being fired by her agent following her public criticism of Adam Sandler demanding that she show up to an audition wearing a tank top with a push-up bra underneath. It is not like enough evidence of her body (ahem) of work was not out there already at that point. 

McGowan is currently living in Italy and working on a music album of some sort and she did a great interview with her pal Amber Tamblyn for feminist mag Bust.

The subject of McGowan's beginning of the end of her acting career comes up and McGowan explicitly mentions 2007's "Planet Terror", director Robert Rodriguez's half of the "Grindhouse" movies that also had Quentin Tarantino directing when McGowan plays a murderous one-legged stripper. Here's what she said.

On those two [Grindhouse] films, where there was heaping amounts of macho crap going down, I was like, why am I subjugating myself for some dickhead’s benefit so they can get their rocks off? This is not fun. This abuse is not fun. All of the women who support this system are not fun. I don’t want to live this way. This means nothing to me. I have dealt with systematic hatred; was held up as an example of what to hate. I was cast in [films about] people’s Madonna/whore issues. It’s not my fucking problem that you have a problem with your mommy. Get over it.

Yeah, if it's not fun, don't do it. Thanks for the memories, McGowan.
