Laurent's newest creation is "Sex on Set," starring Mikayla Mendez, Alektra Blue, Jennifer Dark, Sativa Rose, and Tiffany Tyler— along with Danny Mountain, Marco Banderas, Mick Blue, and Tommy Gunn. As you can see, he still has an eye for picking top notch talent.

Not only is Marco Banderas one of the nicest guys in porn, but he also has great teeth. So his "Dark Side" movies give the false impression that, because the sex is nasty, its perpetrators are, too.

But Banderas, like cohort Lexington Steele and a few others (Steve Holmes comes to mind) really comes across Annette Schwarz's face as grateful rather than "dark" in this series of vignettes featuring things like a dream sequence with Rebeca Linares and Alanah Rae (you see, they're selling cookies) and a glorious romp with Annette Schwarz in which the German uberfrau seems to inhale Banderas.

Then there are scenes with the unabashedly bootylicious Pinky and the exquisite Jada Fire as well as zaftig landmadel Katja Kassin and Mya Luanna, who answer the door to find Banderas in a towel speaking Spanish. It almost seems like a couples' movie if there weren't so much assfucking.

(NB: Plenty of couples I know assfuck on a regular basis, but they don't watch porn.)

Banderas seems genuinely happy to be amongst this bevy of hippy hotties, and there is no dark side evident whatsoever. So you'll have to oblige the title even if there's never a dark moment.

Though all the girls featured in "Deviance" put forth excellent performances, it's very clear that Eva Angelina is the real star of the show (as well she should be). Appearing in four of the six scenes, Eva takes on Mr. Marcus (in all three holes!), joins Lexi Belle in a threeway with Tommy Gunn, gets doubled teamed (and DPed) by Ben English and Marco Banderas, and heads up an all-girl free for all with Teagan Presley, Sunny Leone, and Alexis Texas. We're exhausted just writing that up—we can't imagine what it must have been like for Eva to actually do it.

The two non-Eva scenes are also quite strong, with Kagney Linn Karter and James Deen enjoying each other in what appear to be the hallway of an abandoned warehouse and Shawna Lenee going after Mick Blue and Jerry (at the same time!). But really, we gotta say...its Eva who steals our heart.

Difficult as it was to wait for Eva during her months away from porn, "Deviance" is proof positive that the wait was worth it. And if this is Eva getting her feet wet, well...we can't wait for "Evalutionary."

As with "Chemistry," Tristan builds "Rough Sex" around the desires of her performers. Each of the five scenes is directly based on the rough sex fantasy of its female star; the male co-stars were also chosen by stars themselves, not a casting director. It's a nice touch: knowing that the performers are acting out their secret (or not-so-secret) desires with someone they enjoy working with adds an extra oomph to the scenes.

And the scenes themselves are pretty hot as it is (at least if you're into rough sex). Of the five, Satine Phoenix's scene with Derrick Pierce is easily our favorite. The most elaborate of all the scenes, "Stranded" finds Satine, ahem, stranded in the desert with a broken down car and no cell reception. She's discovered by Derrick, who offers her his cell, and some company, but starts to turn forceful once he realizes there's no one around to stop him from taking what he wants. Both Satine and Derrick are practiced rough players, and their chemistry is quite good—it also helps that they manage to stay in character (and, okay, maybe Satine's fantasy is our fantasy too).

But Satine is not alone in turning in a standout performance. Marie Luv and Julius Ceazher turn up the heat, acting out Marie's fantasy of getting caught cheating; Francesca Le (the film's sole femdom) makes hard working husband Christian take a break from the office and focus on his real boss; and Adrianna Nicole succumbs to the desires of intruder Marco Banderas.

And, of course, there's Sasha Grey. The final scene in the collection, Sasha's encounter with Danny Wylde is the least scripted, and seemingly the least fantasy-based (unless Sasha sits around fantasizing about negotiating with her partners and then having rough sex on a pool table). It's also the most real feeling: we can actually imagine that this is how Sasha has sex in real life. An initial discussion of likes and dislikes segues into very playful rough sex, with Danny and Sasha switching back and forth between domme and sub. There's no fancy set up or story line, but it doesn't matter: real, hot sex is really all we need.

Tristan Taormino has long been our go-to director for real hot porn exploring pornstars' real desires; it now seems that she'll similarly be our go-to director for real hot rough sex. A second volume of "Rough Sex" is already in the works; it should go without saying that we're counting down the days to its release.

I can't imagine director Ernest Greene doing anything that doesn't involve the fleshly transfer of power. McDonald's drive-through? "McFloggets, please." At the dry cleaners? "Extra wire hangers, please." At church? "More nails."

That is why his "Perfect Secretary 2: Training Day" (he didn't direct the original) for Adam & Eve somehow involves Justine Joli being trussed like a delightful, wriggling roast sylph by the imperious and near-translucent Claire Adams.

That is why the sturdy and yelly secretarial student Mika Tan is ground by and grinds in turn the likes of Marco Banderas and Chris Cannon, nearly ruining a suite of office furniture in the process.

That is why Kayden Kross must take dictation to the beat of harsh swats from a riding crop.

The movie will be released—as if from restraints—some time this summer. I attended the filming and, since I have memories that will last a lifetime (and because I'll get it for free), won't need to buy the movie. But you really should.

The classic porn company VCX has released a trunkful of Golden Age titles, including "The Second Coming of Eva," a delightful 1975 romp in which redhead Eva (Swedish Penthouse Pet Brigitte Maier) sheds whatever thin pretense of innocence she once had at a randy sham boarding school where the sideburns are as long as the pubes.

Meanwhile, at the dawn of the next century, the not-so-innocent (after all, she's a mom now) Eva Angelina stars in a series of vignettes directed by Jonni Darkko in which the thick, bespectacled, and xup-besotted Latina takes all comers in whatever entrance is currently available.

Of course, nothing connects these two movies other than the name and the fact they arrived at Fleshbot West in the same month, but it is interesting to see the tradeoffs porn has made through the years.

I, for example, would have liked to have seen much more of Brigitte Maier, but I was genuinely charmed by the sense of fun in "Second Coming."

And as for Eva Angelina, well, she's so winning in person that I think a movie would sell even if she kept her clothes on a moment longer. Sure today's Eva can deliver in one minute what it took the old "Eva" a popshot-free movie to get around to, so I guess what disappeared in the past three decades is the free time to wait for it.

O2: The Surrender of O

"We hate to be wet alone," says Marie (Nina Hartley) of her new, incorrigible slave O (Bree Olson). "(But) we don't punish because they're bad, we punish because it's fun."

In the rarefied world of O2, director Ernest Greene's "fan fiction" updating of characters from Anne Desclos' "The Story of O" (and the sequel to 2006' O: The Power of Submission), everything requires permission and everything has rules. But the consequences are supposed to be fun.

So what happens in a D/s relationship when things aren't fun anymore?

Before we get to that, let's talk about Bree Olson and Carmen Luvana.

In the original, former Adam & Eve flagship contract star Carmen Luvana played the title character as Carmen Luvana herself is; a steely, no-nonsense sweaterminx who was all machine-crafted porn-star curves. Olson inhabits the role in a far-more cushiony way. It is easy to believe the sub in her. In fact, as the stern (but fair) Hartley and the Amazonian Sheridan put O(lson) through her paces, hanging her upside down, smacking tantalizingly close to her most secret places, O looks like a delicious and yielding piece of dough beside the two more angular ladies.

"You don't have to see the first one to get the story," director Greene says. But I get the feeling Adam & Eve would like you to. The first movie made a lot of money and still brings in a fair amount of cash each month, which is unheard of for a porn movie from two years ago (which is a much better way of saying "a two-year-old porn movie").

The sequel finds our heroine still in love with the man she left behind, having even lasered off his tattoo from her tramp stamp area. But can she keep away? And will Marie be her enabler?

O is a sexual tourist, a servant of many masters, and the story of O is what constitutes fidelity in the master/slave relationship.

Marie and Mistress Nicole (Nicole Sheridan) are co-dominatrices in a clean industrial space to which O has hied herself to begin masturbating without permission. And this is not allowed.

So the movie opens with this zesty little scene in which Olson is nothing but a willing plaything to Marie and Mistress Nicole. And this is fine. BDSM purists will love it as will fans of Hartley, Sheridan, and Olson, each of whom represents a body type characteristic of the generations of Porn in which she started.

But after her workout, Olson and Hartley start talking (Sheridan has been dispatched to In-n-Out Burger, where she will return with a bagful of Double Doubles that the ladies will wrestle in for the O sequel in my mind). As in real life, Hartley as Marie plays an impish mentor, suggesting to O that her "maintenance doses" of whupping might not be enough to scratch O's itch.

"Why don't you come up to the house?" says Marie.

The house! If there had been a budget for it, we would have flashed back to 2006 and the strange events at The House, a full-immersion "lifestyle" chateau in which masters, mistresses and their servants live their roles unfettered by aspects of common living like phone bills, nosy relatives, and Jehovah's Witnesses. It was here that O's character was swapped between the imperious Steven and his tragic brother Ray, and where O broke Steven's heart.

The house!

O swallows her fear and makes the drive, and in a quick montage sequence that would have made Stephen J. Cannell rethink his career, she gets herself gussied up for the experience, removing underthings, self-shackling handcuffs, etc.

At the house, O meets Rita (Mika Tan) and Regina (Kayden Kross), who let her know that Marie is the prime mover in the operation, not the fellows whom she lets think are in charge.
"It's a quite profitable business," Regina says. "For us."

But wouldn't that make me a whore? we hear O thinking.

"Don't even say it," Rita says.

Now it's time for more sex. For someone who so clearly looks like the late-model porn star, Kayden Kross sure works hard for her money. Unlike Olson, who looks the part of a welcoming sub, the porn-glamorous Kross must convince us that she really likes what she's doing, and she does this in a post-shaving interlude with Erik Everhard. She and the Canadian Everhard engage in some cross-border trucing that is all about the north/south reconciliation and not about fisheries.

But things are going tough for O. Not only is Steven downstairs making Tan and Ava Rose do terrible, wonderful things, but his prodigal half-brother Ray (Tommy Gunn) also just checked in. O is distraught, and Rita dutifully runs to tell Marie, after Rita and O share a tearful girls' moment in the tastefully appointed swingers' lavatory. It's a goddamn henhouse with buttplugs in there.

"Oh, poor O," says Marie when Rita tells her the news, as if Marie couldn't have prevented all this potential heartache. (Like God, a dominatrix always wants to take the credit for the good times, but when things go south, it's all about your personal responsibility.)

Anyway, after watching O endure encounters with both cold Steven and hapless Ray (the brothers have a scene together - in which they talk - where I almost forgot I was watching a porn movie, save for Kayden Kross' ass), puppetmistress Marie orchestrates a reconciliation between O and Steven. She even gives the soon-to-be-couple a ring with the inscription "Freedom is deciding whose slave you want to be."

At this point I was wondering "what gives you the right, Marie?" when O said those very words on screen.

"I don't," says Marie. "But, like everything I have in life, I took it."

So not only does O2 illuminate and glorify good D/s relationships as healthy partnerships between thoughtful people, it also validates Marie's unsettling compulsion to meddle. This domme is topping from the side.

All in all, that's a lot to think about while lubricating your apparatus.

While now and then a performer seems to struggle with the lines he has been asked to deliver, my only real problem with this movie is that it looks like it deserved more money. Normally with porn movies it's the other way around; they are playing at "mainstream" production values but lacking the skill to pull it off. O2 had the skills but, with only five days to shoot what could have been a month-long indie project, it was like having to watch Lawrence of Arabia on a little black and white TV.

Regardless, as a sex film, as a lifestyle documentary, and as a flesh-packed, English-language telenovela, O2: The Surrender of O is, like its predecessor, another porn movie that transcends its genre. Remember: Come for the Nina, stay for the Bree.

Missy Stone is busy pleasuring herself on her velveteen bedspread, representative of the one toy rabbit she brought from home, her one connection to childhood. Professor Marco Banderas walks in and catches the grey-eyed beauty with her sensible loafers up on the bed.

What makes her a student and him a professor? The outfits, of course, and the title of the movie. Nothing else is spelled out. College is all about interpreting context.

At no point is the sullying of the teacher/student relationship addressed, but Stone does shoot Banderas an icy look; could it be that he let his teaching assistant grade her paper unfairly, or could it be because her name isn't Fiona and never will be?

The special effects-heavy porn homage to "300" stars Brea Bennett, Nikki Kane, Cassidey, and Renee Perez at the titular quadsome along with the very fortunate Charles Dera and Marco Bandares as Xerxes the Persian God-King (a role which we were originally offered but turned down so as to remain impartial). No word yet whether an actual pit was used during filming to kick Ninnworx' critics into, but from these shots it's clear that Michael Ninn has once again combined his signature glossy high-end music video style with some hot and heavy fucking action to stunning effect (and has already managed to make us forget about some of his previous over-brooding releases, which shall go unmentioned). Still no word on an official release date, but we'll keep you posted.

"The Four" are Ninnworx' quartet of contract stars: Renee Perez, Brea Bennett (not Brea Lynn as I'd previously written), Cassidey, and Nikki Kane. They play against Marco Banderas as Xerxes in what appears to be a "Mists of Avalon"-style sequel/porn reimagining of "300," complete with some very impressive recreations of that slow down/speed up editing trick "300" popularized.

Banderas is oiled and toothy as Xerxes, and his one-ethnicity-fits-all Spanish accent lends him an air of foreign menace. What the girls are doing we don't know, but sticking to a bare-bones comic book plot is probably a good idea for Ninn, whose superior artistic sensibilities far outstripped the plot points (ghostly spousal abuse, death of a child) of his recent features.

We're looking forward to "The Four," scheduled for release either this spring or this summer, depending on what you read, as it will be the centerpiece of that sexy Solstice party we want to throw with the women of Jezebel.

There's a dance party for the nurses, and they'll do anything to win. Even resort to sex and martial arts.

It's movies like Kung Fu Nurses A Go-Go that remind us that the rental of two or three skimpy nurses' outfits spread over eight or so women on different shooting days is really all it takes to satisfy the porn consumer's need for a narrative.

This movie is just about pointless, but is light and charming regardless. A vignette film not featuring any of Wicked's female contract stars, it has the feel of a movie that has little to prove and little to lose.

This inspires some serious hammy acting from three of the four hammiest actors in porn: Randy Spears, Evan Stone, and Nick Manning (Steven St. Croix couldn't make it) who reappears as Mr. Thermopyles for no other reason than to refer to his character in the third person.

We meet various nurses over the course of the movie, and each informs her patient that there's a dance that night. Somehow kung fu is incorporated.

One gets the impression that there were some extra props lying around, some money was freed up, and Nick Manning happened to be driving by. "Hey! Let's make a movie!"

Porn consumers familiar with the work of the late Jim Holliday might see similarities in this movie directed by Mark Stone, in that there are nurses. Unlike Holliday's work, however, there is little scripted dialogue. The viewer can enjoy scenes of pretty women in nurses' uniforms without sitting through a self-important plot.

"Kung Fu Nurses A Go-Go" is not an important porn movie; it's just fun.

Take this room, for example. New Sensations might have stuffed it full of geegaws and fripperies. Instead it is stuffed with Ashlynn Brooke and Marco Banderas, and then the stuffing is increased exponentially. Things need scaleability in the new porn order. Kubrickian scaleability.

Brooke is New Sensations' contract girl. Under the radar by comparison with larger studios that would have also liked Brooke's look, New Sensations was also the company that made Carmen Luvana famous before her stint with Adam & Eve.

"Young Girls with Big Tits2" also stars Bree Olson, Amy Ried, and Sammi Rhodes (as well as Marco Banderas).

While Jesse Jane rovided interview wrap-ups from a stage just outside the Awards, Casey Parker was Playboy's Girl on the Floor, and as such she probably appeared in more photographs than anyone. By the end f the evening she was just as chipper as in the beginning. Here she chats with jessica drake about oing anal. ("You don't just dive in," drake said.)

Flower Tucci can always be counted on for an outfit that seems at once accessible and impossibly out of reach. Here she confounds us with a prize that could only be won after several frustrating hours of unlacing.

Marco Banderas and partner Lisa DeMarco (get it?) cut striking figures, but what was more impressive was Banderas' skill at turning just in time toward any camera aimed at him from anywhere in the room, as if to say, "Hola, Fleshbot readers!"

I hear things are just as bad up in Lake Erie.

We have never been sure of Robin Leach's function at this event, but we always see him. Leach's own cameraman was beloved of porn stars for asking Jenna Jameson and Tera Patrick who they were (thugh he did recognize Jameson beau Tito Ortiz). Meanwhile, Leach kept a personal record of the Not So Rich and Famous.

At the opposite end of the carpet performers were kept in yet another holding pen.

Former performer Joe Lawrence and signees of his talent agency were the last to walk the red carpet. Much of the press had left at this time since the awards show was two hours late, but no porn star was left behind.

The elfmaidens (Aarielle Alexis and Alex Jordan) feel that Santa is too traditional.

"Don't be gay," one says. "Girls don't want dolls, they want dongs. And boys don't want trains, they want to run trains - on girls like us."

This repackaging of five previously-released scenes with a Christmas wraparound dovetails nicely with the "Barely Legal" theme of letters to its eponymous magazine, but in this case the letters are repurposed for Santa.

Sasha Grey is deemed "naughty" for breaking and entering to what she thinks is her teacher's house in search of test answers. Instead she must deal with the homeowner and, in exchange for him not calling the police, must perform sexual acts upon his person. Personally, I think this is a nice gesture that cancels out the naughty one, but Hey, I'm a Buddhist and we don't believe in Santa.

Then we read a letter from Ashley Blue sent in the ancient days of "Barely Legal 27". She, as Santa says, is a "filthy lying whore" for duping realtors into believing she wants to rent houses when what she really wants is to use them for sex.

Penny Flame courts a security guard for backstage passes and he is the same guy who owned the house Sasha Grey broke into. That was a nice house, too; how much are security guards making?

Paulina James relates a tale of a three-way with Steven St. Croix and Marco Banderas. I found it utterly implausible. Something about mail theft.

Finally, the elves convince Santa not to cancel Christmas by the only means at their disposal.

No one will confuse this movie for an instant classic, but the individual scenes are good enough, though some voiceovers are by the performers and others are by sometime-"Barely Legal" directrix Erica Mclean. It would be better if the series chose one or the other, because it is jarring to hear 19-year-old Sasha Grey read her letter but 50-ish Mclean read another. Mclean, of course, gives the series a touch of wistful remembrance a la Jeanne Moreau in "The Lover".

Alexis and Jordan are at a disadvantage in their scene because, aside from it being tacked on, it seems to have been hastily shot "just in time for Christmas" back in September. Oh well. Jizz the season.

Borrowing a little from bleak science fiction like "The Matrix", "Minority Report", "Strange Days", "eXistenZ", David Bowie's "Space Oddity" (with Hillary Scott as Major Tom) and, for some reason, selections from the score of "American Beauty", "Upload" integrates very dirty sex plausibly into a compelling, challenging script by Alvin Edwards and director Eli Cross.

Most dramatic porn requires a suspension of disbelief. We watch performers play-acting serious dialogue like they are trying on strange clothes in an 80's montage sequence. And why should we expect more? When they're having sex on film, is that the way real people do it?

But "Upload" clicks each time, and just when you start worrying that a performer has bitten off more than he can chew, when you think, "Uh oh - ," the movie takes a corner.

Eva Angelina plays Cassandra Cray, an agent with the top secret, licensed to kill Digital Security Agency of the Homeland Security Department.

"I don't have to make you an enemy combatant to make you disappear from the planet," she says during an interrogation.

Angelina is on the trail of Tesla (Hillary Scott), a gal who records her sexual escapades onto a chip, or SIM, that allows others to experience what she does. She is, in the world of the movie, a SIMwhore, and that's illegal enough to attract Cassandra's attention.

But Scott isn't carrying any SIM. The data encoded on the chip Scott is protecting is a little more dynamic, and presents a threat to national security.

Other people's sex on a chip planted into one's own neck provides ample opportunity for relevant sex scenes. We watch what turns on Hillary and Eva as well as what passes through the minds of male leads Derrick Pierce and Bryn Pryor.

The movie is told in flashbacks. Angelina is brought before an Internal Affairs psychiatrist (Pryor) and she recounts the sordid tale of how she tracked down Tesla, what Tesla's interrogation revealed, and why love, when reduced to ones and zeros, might be worthwhile if there are enough of them to make the relationship interesting.

So the story is ambitious. "Upload" is not the first porn movie to shoulder a weighty script, but it does it more effectively than any porn movie I've seen. It trusts the audience to follow it along, doesn't overexplain, and has the admirable quality of joining scenes toward the middle of the action and leaving them before it's obvious they're through.

One example comes early in the movie. Angelina explains to Pryor how she first became aware of a new wrinkle in the local SIM-trafficking market. We follow her as she gets promoted past disgruntled wannabes in line at a club. She meets underworld types Evan Stone and Sandra Romain. Here warning bells rang. Why was Stone wearing sunglasses in the club? Was he a Terminator? No matter. As Angelina explained to her interrogator, she got her information not from an exchange of money, but -

- the scene shifts to the three of them fucking the shit out of each other, the demonic Sandra Romain slapping Angelina's pussy and face in rapid succession as Stone fucks the good agent. Clearly Angelina works in unorthodox ways.

But, she points out, in "Upload"'s filth-positive context, "I wasn't molested by my father, my Uncle Ronnie didn't touch me...wanna hear how my Dracula doll tied up and raped my Barbies when I was five?" Sometimes people feel dirty for no reason at all.

Eva Angelina is fantastic. "Upload" takes two discs to unravel and she is in almost every scene. Her character sometimes takes things lightly, sometimes hates herself, sometimes is inappropriate. In other words, she's in a porn movie but she has a character.

"I think you fantasize about being that agent that was taken captive," Pryor declares, after Angelina paints a vivid (but not Vivid) picture of the torture of tasty torturebait Julie Night by Adrianna Nicole and Alex Sanders, who growls over a dildo he is about to shove up Night's ass:

"Get it wet or I'm gonna stick it in you dry."

Angelina and partner Pierce become targets when they get too close to the identity of Gagarin, the man poised to take over the world's digital grid and, knocked out, Pierce has his own fantasy about being a 30's private eye, complete with black and white interludes with juicy femme fatale Kylie Ireland and willing secretary Delilah Strong.

"Upload" has planty of scenes that might not please timid couples. There is fisting, pissing, lots of anal, lots of choking, torture, rape, and running around topless while drinking. There is even an orgy scene in hell which, compared with the numbing effect of some of the other scenes, didn't make hell look that bad.

Standout scenes include the three-way with Stone, Romain, and Angelina, a glorious gang bang with Scott and five guys, including Brian Surewood in one of his final performances for awhile, and a dusty desert menage a trois featuring the objects of Angelina's (and my own) fantasy: Adrianna Nicole, Lorelei Lee, and Madison Young.

"Upload" comes in a four-disc set with lots of extra features, most of which I didn't watch. A 12-minute sock puppet interpretation of the film, Laundry Load, is included on disc four and is a goofy but very faithful primer on the movie.

The people who make porn that seeks to be something more than Just Porn have the odds stacked against them. No one wants to believe it can be done, not because it can't, but because it often isn't. Even the unfortunate public relations department of producer Sex Z Pictures can't fathom having released a good porn movie. Here's the headline of a recent press release:

Seriously: Upload Is Great

"Upload" tries, and it succeeds. This is the type of movie performers like Angelina and Pierce, who have together been in hundreds of scenes, can be very proud of. It is certainly the best porn movie I've ever seen, and I usually can't stand the stuff.
