No? Yeah...we kinda forgot all about her too. Quick refresher: a year ago, Ms. Dylan put her virginity up for auction (to pay off student loans, natch). And now it seems she's found a winner.

Yes, Natalie's deflowering has been sold to an American man for one million dollars. Yes, it seems like a lot to us, too, but hey: props to Natalie for scoring so much cash. Also in the works? A book deal and a biopic. Man, if we'd known auctioning off our ladyflower could be that much of a get rich quick scheme, we never would have pursued this whole writing scam.

<![CDATA[Sex Sells... Garden Gnomes?]]> Romanian businessman Cristi Birgu has attracted attention by trying to drum up sales for his garden gnome business with the strategic use of prostitutes. Plastic prostitutes, that is: Birgu has the miniature ladies of the evening—also manufactured by his company—placed outside his home, in the hopes that they'll attract potential buyers. Somehow, we just can't see much overlap between the people who buy garden gnomes and the people who solicit sex workers—but hey, what do we know? (ananova.com)

So, uh, what would it take to get you guys to tattoo the Fleshbot logo on your arms? (telegraph.co.uk)

<![CDATA[Reality Show Seeks Escort For Non-Exploitative Good Time]]> Call girls (or escorts, if you prefer) are notoriously private people, who generally prefer to stay off the radar as they pursue the glorious, age old career of exchanging sex and companionship for money. Reality shows, on the other hand, are fundamentally about being on the radar and exploiting the intimate details of your private life for financial gain. We're not sure what you'd call a bizarro world where those two things come together. Oh wait, no, we do know: Hollywood. (reversecowgirlblog.blogspot.com, thumbnail star via Ask Jolene)

<![CDATA[Tyra Takes On Sex Work]]> We've had many bad interesting experiences with Tyra Banks in the past, so it comes as no surprise that we were, well, a bit confused by her latest "Porn Town" episode. Here's the gist: Tyra takes a bunch of different sex workers (including Fleshbot Crush Object Sinnamon Love), puts them on stage, and forces them to fight over things like who's more respected and higher status! They even get to assign each other roles in their little "Porn Town"! Who will be mayor... and who will be custodian?

<![CDATA[Hiring An Escort Is As Easy As Ordering A Pizza, And Other Revelations]]> Last night saw the broadcast of "Dirty Money: The Business of High End Prostitution," CNBC's special on the world of sex work—and, specifically, escorts who cater to rich and powerful men. Over the course of an hour, host Melissa Francis walked us through the ins and outs of modern sex work, explaining things like "girlfriend experience" and The Erotic Review to ordinary families all across America. (And did you know that it's as easy to hire an escort as it is to order a pizza? Can we get our next escort with onions and mushrooms, please?)

All kidding aside, the special was actually worth watching. Though it was—predictably—full of a great deal of sensationalism, it also took the time to interview sex workers and sex worker advocates, filling the the hour with sound bites from women like Veronica Monet and Elizabeth Bernstein. TV actually providing a well-rounded, honest look at prostitution? Amazing!

Most surprising moment of the night? Amid all the shock and awe, he special actually took the time to touch on serious issues, such as decriminalization, even taking the time to interview Carol Leigh, aka Scarlot Harlot, a noted sex worker's rights activist:

We're not sure if this special is a sign of things to come, or just a blip on the radar—but if more networks follow CNBC's lead, that can only be a good thing.

<![CDATA[ Potentially bad news for fans of escort...]]> Potentially bad news for fans of escort review site The Erotic Review: the site's founder is currently on trial in California for cocaine possession and having a loaded semi-automatic weapon, although there wasn't enough evidence to support the claim of the prostitute he was found with that he had "forced her to perform oral sex at gunpoint". While we're happy he's been providing a much-needed service, those allegations give us pause: when it comes to the world of sex work, who will review the reviewers? (nytimes.com - thanks K.)

<![CDATA[Providers, Hobbyists, And Hardwood Floors: Walking The Virtual Streets]]> Free and open discussion of things that were formerly considered taboo is one of the best things about the interweb: websites like Craigslist and The Erotic Review have made it easier than ever for johns hobbyists to hire hookers providers for sex sensual fun, and have also made it more convenient for sex workers auto racing enthusiasts to offer their services and network with one another. But that doesn't mean it's still not a mysterious enterprise with a language all its own (who knew that "We took a trip to the Mediterranean" was shorthand for "anal sex"?) and its own private message boards where users do their best to avoid the wrong kind of attention.

Take the website "Seattle Art Suppliers," for example, which used to be "St. Louis Auto Specialists"—and which is actually a forum where escorts and their customers can "discuss everything from gardening to philosophy to how they prefer one another's pubic hair to be groomed". (Or at least it was until an article about it appeared in the local alt weekly.) It seems that some discussions on the interweb still need to be kept under wraps after all. The more things change ...

<![CDATA[The Internet Escort's Handbook: How To Make A Fucking Profit]]> We got a bit uppity yesterday about people who are mean to hookers, but we were quickly reminded that not everyone is out to get them. In fact, some people are actually looking out for them, in particular, those who have been "on the job" and know what a challenge it is. Like Amanda Brooks, a former escort who has self-published her own guide to sex work: "The Internet Escort's Handbook, Book 1."

A little clueless herself when she first started out in the sex game, Amanda figured out that with a little business sense and the right precautions, you can make a successful living as an escort-for-hire. More than just good advice, the book takes a look at sex and money and it's a reminder of how the "online revolution" (we totally just made that up) has changed the very nature of prostitution. Setting up your own corner of the internet is a heck of a lot safer than standing on a street corner (safer for the johns, too) and when done right, it can also make the life easier and more lucrative. Plus, when you're online you can talk like those adorable lolcats. Everyone loves them!

<![CDATA[Freedom Isn't Free in Fremont]]> As three quarters of Fleshbot's readership are male prostitutes, the eyes of this site are drawn to the cash-strapped Fremont, CA court system, where this week a male escort named Starchild awaits trial for plying his trade. The victim of a sting operation instigated over the Internet by two undercover female vice cops, Starchild traveled by public transportation from nearby San Francisco to the rendezvous location two Decembers ago.

Supporters point out that Fremont, hurting for cash to the point that it has limited its court hours, has better things to do than punishing prosties, but sex worker advocate Carol Leigh takes it a step further: "Starchild, like most San Franciscans, would have little cause or desire to go to Fremont," she said. "I don't meant to put down Fremont, especially in light of the city's financial woes, but Fremont?"

<![CDATA[Handlers: Hillary Scott Is Not "Tiffany"]]> Escort ad rag LA X Press this week posted a picture of Hillary Scott on its cover beside the name "Tiffany", who was listed on page 15 as an "18-year-old hottie" guaranteeing "full release" (because partials are infuriating).

We did the smallest amount of muckraking and immediately regretted it. More after the gap.

2007_9_28_tiff2.jpg
A spokesman for the paper quickly confirmed that no, the performer using the name Hillary Scott is not actually the prostitute using the name Tiffany. Bill Margold, a fixture at the X Press for 14 years, defended the move by saying, "once you sign a release and that image is sold, it can be used for anything all over the United States."

Margold has also appeared in multiple porn films, so he knows who's who.

"But you know that Hillary Scott is not Tiffany, right?"

"That's a chance anyone takes in the adult industry who signs a photo release," he said.

Well maybe Hillary Scott is up the creek for signing a photo release, but what does "Tiffany" look like? I am choosy about where my full releases come from.

A press release from Scott's handlers (quoting everyone involved in her career but Scott herself), didn't deny that Scott might work as an escort; it just said she wasn't Tiffany, and that the X Press "usually puts a recognizable adult movie star on the cover to grab attention however, this time they goofed. Or maybe they didn't goof and wanted the publicity."

Conclusion: Porn is a filthy business.

<![CDATA[ Pervtastic porn purveyor Davo turns to Craiglist...]]> Pervtastic porn purveyor Davo turns to Craiglist escort ads for inspiration for his Little Book Of Prostitute Poetry, and the result is gems like "You pierced your clit/It got infected/That was not/What you expected"; amazingly, his efforts met with little response from the muses in question. <![CDATA[Brittany Andrews Does Tyra (Or Vice-Versa)]]>

Depending on when you're reading this, you either have a few hours to set your TiVo to catch self-proclaimed "Queen of the Porn Star Escorts" Brittany Andrews get raked over the coals have a fair, balanced, and civil chat with talk show titaness Tyra Banks this afternoon—or find someone who recorded it to see for yourself whether words like "foot fetish", "strap-on", or "$1000 an hour" were part of the discussion. According to Brittany, though, her appearance seems to have been nothing if not about female empowerment: "I was really pleased to be a part of Tyra's show. I love the fact that she focuses significantly on current issues facing women, and being a female entrepreneur with a network of websites that have been highly successful over the last 8 years, they felt I could bring a great deal of flavor to this topic." And maybe we're being a little hard on Tyra when it comes to her attitudes toward people who work in the sex industry—after all, as long as you're not stealing her identity, who's to say that she's not totally cool with how you choose to make your living?*
