"Girls Make Love" might have seemed to non-existent Australian Abby Winters a very simple title for this sunlit lesbian romp, but it made me wonder what the women were doing while the girls were being all soft and romantic?

The first DVD we've seen since AW's Melbourne offices were raided this past June, "Girls Make Love" is an odd choice of title considering the reason police descended: a charge of using underage models.

AW supporters called the raid a witch hunt instigated by a Rupert Murdoch-owned paper and disgruntled former AW employees. Company president Garion Hall was arrested but released from custody the same day, saying that nothing had been seized.

But all this is context for a movie featuring three trysts between women cavorting on comfy beds and couches, their alabaster skin shining slightly with sweat, their hips satisfyingly roomy, looking like the type of women cryptically thanked in the liner notes of 70's albums.

Abby Winters has been criticized for its cash payments to models and (some say) its coercive tactics on naive young women. The same can be said of the American or European porn industry. But it is hard to see evidence of coercion or risky business on Abby Winters DVDs - each looks nothing but wholesome and sunny.

Of course, wholesome and sunny are relative terms considering what we usually get around Fleshbot West.
