Like "The Birthday Party," "The Perversion" balances hardcore with high art; not only is it satisfying to watch, but it gives you something to talk about around the water cooler with, you know, the co-workers who understand you. The movie is described as an exploration of "artistic metaphors of domination and submission," although it's hard to divide the symbols and metaphors from the literal demonstrations of sexual control. But whatever, Sasha Grey wears a cape and looks fucking fantastic.

We probably don't need to tell you how great the sex is, but some things deserve mention. As previously showcased, Dane Cross and Faye Reagan dominate Sindee Jennings through a bizarre mix of camaraderie and exclusion. At one point, they Eiffel Tower her (that is, they join hands as Sindee is fucked by Dane and eats out Faye) with such romance and passion that it almost strips that position of its frat house connotations.

One of the most surprising things about "The Perversion" is how much we enjoyed Nick Manning in his scene with Tommy Gunn and Kiera King. In this vignette, you see Kiera lying on the ground, wearing a leash, and lapping up the puddle of booze spilled on the floor. While the music is still going, Nick and Tommy lumber their enormous frames into the scene, pick Kiera up, and fuck her. All this is standard.

But when the music stops, Nick Manning comes off as a crazed, three-dicked Cerberus barking orders to GAG ON THAT COCK (emphasis his), and yet it somehow fits! Honestly. It's especially menacing juxtaposed with Tommy Gunn's cool, silent, and vicious demeanor.

Seeing Sasha master the women around her is always refreshing, and it's in her scenes with Evie Dellatoso and Nikki Rhodes that the metaphors of domination clearly come across. For example, while pushing around Nikki, she keeps black tape over her nipples. This effectively denies the viewer the full image of her breast; Sasha dominates the imagery.

And dominate she should. Now that Grey Art is pumping out films, she can feel free to show us whatever she'd like.

The benefit at L.A.'s awesome Busby's East (formerly the Conga Room) features the aforementioned date to end all dates raffle as well as appearances by several Wicked Girls (including a jessica drake gift basket sadly not containing jessica drake), Courtney Cummz, Nicki Hunter, Nina Hartley, and probably everyone else.

Not only that, but celebrity MC duties will be handled by Brody Stevens, Chris Nieratko, Ari Shaffir, and Steve Agee. And, almost as exciting as the thought of a 14-foot game of Footsie under your dream date table, my band, Fogelfoot, will also be there. But we will not date you. Even before you open the box, it's clear that "The Birthday Party" is not your ordinary porn film. The black case is not adorned with any naughty bits or hardcore action—just the upper left section of Sasha's face, gagged with a bandana and wearing a paper tiara (with a birthday candle thrown in for extra fun). The most prominent detail on the box cover is, in fact, Sasha's name, which is displayed in big block letters on the cover and spine.

But one shouldn't judge a book—or porn DVD—by its cover, so we do urge you to crack open the case and experience what lies inside. Sasha's film is, as one would expect, more on the arty side of the spectrum (closer to a Carlos Batts or Eon McKai than a Will Ryder or Robby D); but she makes sure not to sacrifice action for art. The sex scenes are passionate, intense, and, yes, dirty (this is Sasha Grey, after all)—beneath all the fancy camera angles and low lighting is some very hot sex.

One of our favorite moments in the film comes at the very beginning. Sasha sits in a chair, wearing her birthday best, with a bandana gagging her mouth and a cupcake in her hands. Still gagged, Sasha attempts to lick frosting from the cake, making a mess of herself—and her gag—in the process; she's then joined by Chris Johnson, who unties her gag and feeds her the cupcake (and then, you know, they do it). It's a wonderful, sensual moment, one that continues far longer than you might expect. Sasha's willingness to stick with the sensual, and not just rush into the hardcore action, is promising.

We expected great things from Sasha and Grey Art—and "The Birthday Party" does not disappoint.
