Alberich Mathews "Stellar Bodies" appears to have fallen from the web firmament and his more current site "Valkyries" is under the weather as well, but that's why nerds invented Flickr—so that we never have to worry about being able to enjoy things like photos of topless mermaids and underwater nymphs.

Alberich is currently working on a book about these "Rheinmaidens and Rusalka" (think opera, you philistines) and you can follow the process by watching his Flickr stream, where various water-themed galleries capture diaphanous ladies frolicking in the depths. The look and feel of Steve Woron's watery photography reminds us of a late-80's swimsuit catalog or back issue Playboy with the slinky one-piece suits, big teased hair, and a love affair with wet t-shits draped over giant nipples. Libor Spacek is a Czeck photographer and a licensed scuba instructor, so you can probably guess where this post is heading ... naked babes underwater! We've always been horrible swimmers, but for some reason we're enthralled by pictures of hot women floating through space in their aqua ballets. Spacek bring his studio techniques (he takes plain old art nude and fetish-flavored on dry land as well) under the waves, using custom-made lights and equipment to create some very unique portraits that go way beyond just some guy hanging out at the pool. The bodies hover in darkness and bubbles for a truly beautiful effect, leaving you wondering exactly how he does it. In fact, we'd love to see the technique in action—perhaps there's an opening on his crew for "deputy towel boy"?
