Innocent, mysterious, and ever so lovely, the models featured in Nathan Appel's photos seem to come from some faraway land: a world where animal masks are a common form of adornment, where bikinis and lingerie are the preferred form of apparel, and where women look just as sexy wearing clothes as they do fully naked. Transcendent (And Very Hot) Nudes By C. Owen Johnson

Please don't think for a second that the photos of gorgeous naked models in photographer C. Owen Johnson's sprawling online portfolio are just there for you to drool over: after all, they're "artistic representations of the female nude" (it says so right there on his splash page) and represent "both the beauty of the female form and art that a model and photographer collaborate to produce". We've had a couple of opportunties in the past to note how well those collaborations work with models like Minx and Zille Defeu, but browsing through the rest of the several dozen galleries on Johnson's site convinced us how successful he's been in the greater task he's set out to do: "This site is about the answer to that question—to the extent that it is answerable—about images that transcend the labels - and the boundaries - of 'art', 'erotica', and 'porn.'" (And if you find yourself drooling over the results of those experiments ... well, we won't tell.)

Artist Liz Cohen Does Great "Bodywork"

In most auto shops, the mechanics work on the cars and the babes hang on the wall, usually as the monthly treat in some complimentary auto parts calendar. In Liz Cohen's garage however, the mechanic is the babe and not only does she have the knowledge and the skill to turn an old German Trabant into an Transformer-like El Camino hybrid, she's got the body to pose seductively on top of it in a bikini.

Of course, it's not just a car, it's an art project that we first took notice of in its infancy, but has come to fruition and is now on display in New Mexico. Inspired by the low rider culture of Southern California, she taught herself the in-and-outs of car rebuilding—and re-built her own body to match—in order to create a multimedia installation that's part living sculpture, part Hot ~~Rod~~Bod magazine. How many mechanics get to star in their own bikini calendar alongside a car that they built themselves? How many mechanics would you even want to see in a bikini? If you're talking about the crew at our local Midas shop ... the answer is not many.

Autodestruct: Sexy (And Strange) Pinup Art by Paul Richards

It might not be totally accurate to call Austin-based Paul Richards a pinup artist per se—his portfolio includes plenty of examples of work that doesn't fit into that category, like puppies and pumpkins and assorted ghosts, ghouls, and goblins. And fans of traditional pinup work may find themselves a bit discomfited by some of his more outrageous sexy creations, like eight-nippled raygun-toting alien babes or hot Chthulu-on-space chick action. As far as we're concerned, though, the art of pinup illustration is a constantly evolving one—which is to say that as much as we admire the traditional cheesecake kind, we can't get enough of things like eight-nippled raygun-toting alien babes and hot Chthulu-on-space chick action. So let's hope the talented Mr. Richards keeps bringing us more of it. (And did we mention that he accepts commissions too?)

Aussie hottie Kitty Toxin is a self-described "mad scientist" whose interests include biomedical science, anatomical charts, playing with her two pet rats and assorted spiders, and lounging around in a bathtub while reading books about Dr. Who —all of which would instantly earn her instant Fleshbot Crush Object™ status on their own (especially the Dr. Who part.) But Kitty isn't one of those gorgeous geeks into barren theorizing: she's also an accomplished painter and fetish pinup model, and we can't think of anyone else we've seen online lately who can make a rhytidectomy look so damn sexy; if she didn't live clear on the other side of the planet from us, we'd be booking an appointment on her operating table in no time.

Sexy Pinups by Viktor Jung

Czech artist Viktor Jung has the knack of making his pornstar subjects look even better than they do in real life—which is to say that their breasts are always just a little bit bigger and their hips just a touch curvier than their flesh-and-blood counterparts. Such idealization, of course, is characteristic of any halfway decent pinup artist; their work would be pretty dull indeed if their subjects ended up looking, well, real. But we especially like Viktor's work for providing us with something more than just something pretty to look at: given the way he portrays Jenna Jameson and the way she looks these days, we're grateful for the reminder of why we all became so smitten with her in the first place. Even if she never really looked that way to begin with.
