The amazing thing about Black Emanuelle is that whether she's on safari, or exploring ancient ruins, or battling a global white slave conspiracy, she still finds time to get it on with just about everyone she meets. Then she brings down their criminal enterprise.

Because we are of a certain age and temperament, there is a special place in our heart for any movie with the name "Emanuelle" in the title. Much like the eponymous character who populated a dozen or so erotic sleezefests in the '70s and '80s, we had several of our own sexual "awakenings"—which were usually helped along by a late night cable encounter with one of her tales. While Sylvia Kristel was the original sex explorer, our own personal preference was for Laura Gemser, the "Black Emanuelle" who is featured in a new box set that reissues a selection of DVDs from her catalog. We're not sure if it's her long, silky hair or her courageous stand against the white slave trade, but Laura's globe-trotting sexcapades taught us more about the world than any National Geographic special ever could.
