"Contract Star": Everything Old Is Blu Again

Digital Playground's "Contract Star", a very smart and silly movie written by that company's long-time editor Joey Pulgadas, was the first porn movie I ever felt compelled to watch beginning to end. Made in 2004 and featuring the first girl/girl scene between Jesse Jane and Teagan Presley as well as an early appearance by Tommy Gunn, "Contract Star," just re-released in Blu-Ray, is a throwback to fun porn movies.

The plot involves warehouse workers Chuy and Julio (the pasty Eric Masterson and Evan Stone) seeking to augment their porn-packing incomes by finding their company a new contract star. Allong the way they meet Maruca (Jesse Jane) and La Sad Eyes (Teagan Presley).

An excellent example of a porn movie that is great because it doesn't take itself too seriously, "Contract Star" is worth christening your Playstation 3 with.

A Story For The Ages: Diabolic's "Top Shelf"

Since we just decided that it's No-Frills Tuesday here at Fleshbot, let's start out with the basics: Diabolic's new "Top Shelf" stars Amy Reid, Courtney Cummz, Jenna Haze, Sarah Vandella, Brianna Love, Audrey Bitoni and Shawna Lenee. It was directed by Sid Knox. It's the company's first Blu-Ray release.

Now let's go back and read that cast to you again: Amy Reid, Courtney Cummz, Jenna Haze, Sarah Vandella, Brianna Love, Audrey Bitoni and Shawna Lenee. Other porn companies, take note: if you plan on going through the trouble of making high definition smut, they better have a cast this worthy of the medium.

There's not much else to say about "Top Shelf" since Diabolic is known more for sex and not so much for storyline. But we do realize that there are some viewers who hanker for a bit of narrative structure to give their nut that extra oomph. Not to worry, we've come up with something for you. Try this one:

Amy Reid and her band of resistance fighters battle a team of demonically possessed Monagesque fascists intent on world domination and save us all ... by fucking them into submission!

Or how about this one?

Jenna Haze heads up a band of expertly trained ninja sex assassins, who are airlifted into deepest Ouagadougou under cover of night to negotiate the release of hostages taken by a cadré of rogue Blackwater operatives-gone-terrorist mercenaries ... by fucking them into submission!

Sony's Backdoor Blu-Ray Action

Just when we think this whole Blu-Ray/HD DVD format war has sorted itself out, with one technology finally winning out over the other, a new development emerges to swing the pendulum back the other way. First, it was Digital Playground charging into the breach with their decision to publish titles in HD DVD (with other American companies following suit) and the reluctance of Blu-Ray proprietor Sony to allow its own disc replicators to wallow in adult filth. Now comes word out of Japan that Sony has loosed its belt a bit and is now providing equipment and support to a Taiwanese outfit that will allow Japanese porn companies to finally create new Blu-Ray discs and bring them back to the islands.

Since we've heard more times than we care to think about that porn drives our new technological age, this new Sony surge may bring the debate back to life. If the leading tech nation's leading studios start churning out Blu-Ray'd J-porn by the truckloads, will American studios be forced to follow suit? Will the battle re-ignite in time to save Sony's struggling format? Will we ever throw away our cherished VHS copy of "Emmanuelle in Bangkok"? We ~~eagerly~~ await the answers.
