Seattle's HUMP! Festival anonymous amateur porn films that are only screened during the festival itself (with a few excellent exceptions that make their way to the internets later). LA's Erotic Film Fest is a two-day conference featuring both discussion panels and curated porn selections from artists of all genres. And New York's Cinekink does much of the same, but with an ever-ongoing series of touring film screenings. Meanwhile, San Francisco's GV Amateur fest does one thing, and this year did it perfectly: a panel of sexperienced judges picked eight local amateur skin flicks, and gave prizes to the top three.

As it turns out, even amateur porn in San Francisco exhibits a pretty high standard of production values (many entries were from semi-pro filmmakers) and the selection encompassed the sexual diversity we love The City for. On hand in the VIP room were some of the films' stars (and judges) we've spent much mouse time with, such as Madison Young and Sadie Lune. Judges included and Pink and White Productions' drop-dead sexy dykestar Jiz Lee, along with Midori, Tim Gaskin, and Carol Queen, among others.

"Drawn Into A Fantasy" featured outrageously hot dyke action, with a director recently graduated from UC Berkeley's Film Studies department. I'm so sick of only ever seeing tit shots in all this nightlife coverage. I want more peen! So when I agreed to attend the Rated X Panty Party with boob whisperer Nikola—a man who practically has preternatural powers when it comes to getting girls to remove their tops—I knew it was all up to me to get boys to drop trou. I challenged Nikola to some very friendly competition: Boobs vs. Balls. The idea was to see who could get the most members of the opposite sex naked. What is it about November that makes it such a popular month for fetish balls? Like all websites for fetish events are legally required to be, both sites feature black backgrounds and vaguely threatening fonts, but we know better than to be scared off by design: after all, when you follow the spooky, you get to the good stuff like plenty of photos of people poured into slinky outfits looking pleased as punch. It's getting tougher these days to find a photographer who offers a free online portfolio that is both thorough and expansive, but Valerie Place's gallery, which has more than 500 images in it, is all that and a bag of chips ... all wrapped up in latex and Saran Wrap. Her tagline is a question she already knows the answer to: "Fetish anyone?"—and as far as we're concerned, the answer is a hearty "yes, please". I'd never been to one of these events before and, though I knew that the Expo portion had been tacked on a few years ago to make some extra cash, I allowed the shabbiness of the Expo to influence my expectations for the Ball.

Those moblog pics we posted about before made us think something else: if a fetish event happens and no one takes pictures, does it really exist? Fortunately, photographer Michael Diamond's images of this year's RubberBall and Torture Garden events in London earlier this month make us believe that, yes, these things really did happen—and yes, there were lots of people decked out in all sorts of fetish-flavored fashion with matching hair and accessories. All that latex makes us awfully sweaty—not just in the hot-under-the-collar way, but also in that sweating-to-the-gothies kind of way. Maybe that's why everyone looks so slippery and delicious?
