Au Revoir, Jean-Daniel Cadinot

We're sad to hear via Gay Porn Times that director, photographer, and activist Jean-Daniel Cadinot— one of gay porn's true legends—died this week of a heart attack; in his final blog entry on Wednesday, he wrote, "May all the efforts and work of a whole life, the quest for the moment of pure truth in the sublime communion of two beings under the spell of the undefinable desire for the other, inspire those who inherit my heart." We'll be digging up our old VHS copy of "Service Actif" (one of the first porn flicks we actually remember buying) for a private memorial screening this weekend; in the meantime, see why we'll continue to be inspired by his life's work after the jump.

Light a black candle or two today and have a moment of silence to mark the passing of Maila Nurmi, better known as Vampira, whose 38-17-36 measurements caught the attention of legendary schlock director Ed Wood and earned her the adoration of a generation of proto-goth-babe loving fans. Oh, and us too. Rest in pace, Vampira. (nytimes.com + cultsirens.com)

Haus Weston, RIP

Sadly, for the second time this week we must report on the a passing of male pornstar. Haus Weston, the handsome, muscular COLT model and a popular performer in the early '00s, has died. Ace Bannon broke the news last week on his venerable Muscle Service forums, but details were slow to surface. Ace porn reporter JC Adams has more: "I've confirmed this morning that COD was cardiac arrest. Mr. Weston suffered a heart attack while traveling abroad." More »

RIP Haley Paige

Sad news from the porn world this week as AVN confirms the death of popular starlet Haley Paige back in August under what might best be described as mysterious circumstances. Paige starred in over 300 productions during her five year career in the adult industry, including memorable appearances in "Joanna Angel's Guide", Digital Playground's "Jack's Teen America 4" and Frank Castle's "The New Neighbors". She was 26 years old.

RIP Danny Roddick

We've just received word from COLT that Buckshot Man Danny Roddick, who appeared in a handful of films for the company and whose star turn in AMG Brasil's upcoming "Amazonia" we posted about earlier today, died yesterday from unspecified causes. There aren't any more details we can tell you about the circumstances surrounding his death, so we'll just direct you to the press release that wound up in our inbox a few minutes ago; we're as stunned by the news as you probably are. Here's hoping he finds peace.

Our thoughts go out this week to the friends, family, and colleagues of FlavaWorks' Dekenric Wiley, who died last weekend at the age of 32. It's always sad to lose someone so young, but at least he left behind a legacy to be proud of. (dekenric.com. via M.O.C.)

The San Francisco Chronicle eulogizes the Mitchell Brothers, the "clown princes of porn" whose entrepenurial spirit both forged a new path in the adult industry and turned out to be the last of its kind: "Even as they went on hawking the old-fashioned fare of striptease and pole dances ... the Mitchell Brothers anticipated a world where sex would someday be as strangely simple and mind boggling as a billion finger-clicks." (sfgate.com)

San Francisco's Jim Mitchell, who ushered in the 70s porn chic era with "Behind The Green Door" (and who was later convicted for shooting his brother and business partner to death in 1992), is dead at the age of 63. Put on an old raincoat and find a porno theatre to jerk off in this weekend in his memory, k? (AVN + sfgate.com)

Remembering Noel Graydon: "Liberty In Restraint"

Most of the time, discovering the work of a talented fetish photographer isn't the sort of thing that bums us out here at Fleshbot—in fact, it usually makes our blossoms tingle with all sorts of happy thoughts—but we couldn't help feeling sad while we were perusing the online portfolio of Sydney photographer and BDSM master Noel Graydon, who our friends at the Cinekink erotic film festival inform us died last week at the age of 36. Graydon, who was the subject of the award-winning documentary "Liberty In Restraint" a few years ago, leaves behind a body of work that's as notable for its artistic polish as well as for his use of a wide range of models and a sensitive (and very sexy) approach to his subject matter; no matter how outlandish all those ropes and chains and full body latex bondage outfits may appear to the casual observer, you never forget that the folks wearing them are real people. As far as legacies go, there are a lot worse things one can leave behind.

RIP Kent North

We're dumbstruck by news this morning that Hot House exclusive Kent North—who won a GAYVN award this past February for his solo turn in "At Your Service" and whose "Pack Attack" has been in heavy rotation here at Fleshbot since its release last summer—committed suicide yesterday at the age of 34. At times like this it's hard to be amusing or clever or witty (we know, why start now?), so keep your eye on porn reporter JC Adams' updates to the story in the meantime .. and think about why life can be so freaking crappy sometimes.

RIP Cody Foster

More sad news from the porn world: Rumors of the death of 90s porn favorite Cody Foster (real name: Shawn L Sumner) first appeared on the venerable Atkol forums in late January, and were confirmed yesterday by crack adult industry reporter JC Adams. Foster's ripped physique and golden blond looks were the epitome of the California porn aesthetic and his cover for Catalina's "Malibu Pool Boys" propelled his stardom as a highly-sought after muscle bottom in titles inluding "Basic Plumbing", "The Bigger the Better 2" and "Grease Guns." After stints in and out of Colorado prisons, mostly for assault or drug charges, he made a series of comeback performances a few years ago for Grapik Arts in "Back to Basics" and "Submission Wrestling." Sumner died in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he apparently succumbed to complications from liver cancer in early January. He was 36 years old. -RM More »

RIP Brett Mycles

Unless you're a hardcore muscle porn fan, the name Brett Mycles (aka Rob Sager) might not be familiar to you: he made only a handful of films for Jet Set about six or seven years ago. But in certain circles, Brett was a legend despite his limited output for his perfectly symmetrical (and perfectly enormous) muscles, and once you saw him in titles like Jet Set's "Jackhammer", "College Jocks 2", and two editions of the popular "Prime Cut Video Magazine", it would have been unlikely that you wouldn't remember who he was; he also appeared in a few productions with Toronto-based wrestling outfit Can-Am. Before his sudden death this past weekend of congestive heart failure at age 29, Mycles had also added pre-law student, mainstream fitness model, and personal trainer to his resume, and we're sad that we'll never know where else life would have taken him in the coming years. Note to whoever is in charge of these things: could we hold off on the porn star deaths for a while? Thanks.-RM/JD

Remembering Anna Nicole

We're as stunned as everyone else is today about the untimely death of Anna Nicole Smith, and while we can all expect to see endless media tributes ("tributes") over the coming weeks about her various reality show moments, memorable public appearances, weight issues and legal squabbles, let's not forget the reasons why she was famous to begin with: exactly fifteen years after her first Playboy cover appearance (and subsequent crowning as 1993's Playmate of the Year) she remains one of the magazine's most iconic models in its history, and those Guess ads she did are still a lot more sexy than most of what you'll see in the glossy magazines of today. Our thoughts will be with her not-quite-husband and infant daughter this weekend as we dust off our old copies of "The Hudsucker Proxy" and "Naked Gun 33/3" for a memorial film festival in her honor. Rest in peace, Anna Nicole—you were a true original. More »
