We all have our own private map of those places that played a part in the development of our sexuality when we were growing up. But not all of us have made those maps as public as our pal Igor at Driven By Boredom has with a new project where he plots "the spots that gave me the most tingles" on a Google Map along with a Polaroid and a description of what made them so ... er, tingle-worthy: the construction house where he and his girlfriend would sneak into to mess around, the bushes at the Masonic Temple where he had the worst sex of his life.

In Plain Sight: Mapping Sex In Public

When we recently mentioned the UK dogging sensation, we lamented that there wasn't a similar wave of organized public sex in the U.S. Obviously, people over here get it on in public all the time; it's just that no one has given it cool slangy nickname and based a social networking site around it (or at least one that we know of.) However, w've been tipped off to one effort to bring a little Web 2.0 flavor to exhibitionism in America: In Plain Sight is a Google Maps tool where people can mark off the best places to engage in a little lewd misconduct. Visitors are invited to post a story and mark the location of their encounter on the map. The site is actually the creation of a publisher of sex-help books, so who knows if any of these stories are genuine (the locations so far are pretty vague), but we like the idea of building an online database of suitable sexual venues. Perhaps it will become the next big viral internet craze and soon everyone will be dogging it American-style ... or it's just a lame marketing gimmick that's wasting everyone's time.
